hard luggage combo for CPAP and laptop?
Hey folks,
Anyone thought of the same idea? My wife bought me a lovely 17" laptop for xmas. Given the size/weight, I was thinking that when I do travel, it might be a good idea to use a hardshell luggage pull that also would hold my goodnight 420g and humidifier.
I have seen projector/laptop combos such as:
http://www.academicsuperstore.com/marke ... tNo=549699
or
http://www.pcmall.com/pcmall/shop/detai ... ng%20Cases
Anyone else thought of the same idea?
I also broke my wrist earlier this year, so carrying the various smaller bags versus one roller bag is worth the $$ for me.
Ok, that and a large radioactive sticker (circa 1958) for the TSA might be fun.
Cheers,
andy

Interesting part is, I've handled "large electronics" shipping for a couple data centers (ok, I was CTO, but loved working in the lab). Custom/sized cases are often available with completely customizable pull out foam sections. you pull chunks of foam (comes cut like a grid puzzle) to get the shape/depth you want for whatever.
I was thinking that some of these 'laptop plus projector' would be potentials for 'laptop plus cpap' as generally, most new CPAPs are in the shape/size/weight neighborhood of your typical projector.
If someone had gone through the ritual before, I'd love to hear it. If not, I'll definitely be back with results of my trial and error (took me 4 masks before I got the right one).
Again, due to the amount of travel (both plane and car) reducing the number of bags, and putting them on wheels is a good trade for me, even if it costs a couple hundred bucks. Compared to the chronic pain I suffer otherwise, it's a bargain.
and yes, when I fell, wasn't from my ski chalet in aspen, it was off a stepladder in my basement onto the concrete floor. Really boneheaded move on my part, but I get great parking now
As for the TSA. I used to (and may again soon) work for the air marshals as their IT architect and program manager. I have a TSA badge, a DoD badge, and a couple others. I've used it to demand "cleaning your hands before you touch my machine" but most folks don't have that advantage, and I feel it's my job to politely educate every screener I come in contact with.
in that regard, I've taken to carrying old tee shirts, putting my cpap machine on one in those in the nasty dirty bins, same with laptop. Easy to replace, clean, and leaves fewer scratch/damage/dirt/sanitary issues with the "Thousands Standing Around" (aka TSA).
I'm not a fan of anyone touching my stuff. I grew up with little, and work hard for what I have, and simply want my health respected. It is NOT too much to ask of those who put on that facade of security we all suffer through. (I've done counter terrorism studies for DHS, TSA, FAA, and none of the stuff they do (except for the better sniffers on the checked luggage)).
shame isn't it? All you have to do is watch a grade B prison movie, and you'll come up with half a dozen weapons you're already carrying in your carryon luggage. really. Now, with that said, you need to think about it so you can defend yourself wherever you might be, on a plane, in another city, etc. heck, a good pop upside some bad guy's head with your cpap machine might just save your life some day;-) (or laptop, or the list goes on....)
Cheers,
andy

I'd sure look at Pelican cases. Check some of the online photography suppliers. Those folks pack around a lot of expensive equipment and know how to take care of it.
I think the Pelican cases seal water tight and are available with a couple of kinds of configurable interiors.

I use the Pelican 1450, which has to be hand carried. Very good case for protecting cpap
Check here for others on wheels. Company is good to work with when ordering.
