Ok dumb question time ref; filters

Post by ddpelp » Sun Dec 23, 2007 10:38 pm

Well.. going thru the forum tonight I see a video on cpap regarding how to install the white fine disposable filters into the M series CPAP.

I had read in the owners manual to install the white fine filters with the plastic mesh towards the inside on the machine in other words the mesh side goes in first .. Well the cpap video says just the opposite!! It shows that the mesh is to be placed on the outside of the filter area on the machine then of course after that the reusable grey filter goes in last..

Well which is it mesh toward inner part of machine of mesh towards the out side of the machine.. sure is showing opposite on the cpap video.. which is right??
thanks

cut and paste from the manual M series

To install the filter(s):
1. If you are using the white disposable ultra-fine filter, insert it into the filter area first, mesh side facing in, towards the device.
2. Insert the gray foam filter into the filter area as shown in Figure 3–1.

White filter goes in first with the mesh side IN (fuzzy side out) and the foam filter on top of that.

I too believe the video is WRONG.

Mesh side IN. Look at any decent air filter for a car / furnace or other. If it has a mesh side and a fuzzy side, the mesh is a "backing" that holds the fuzzy together. Air forced over the fuzzy against the mesh keeps the filter intact. If it were installed as described in the video, the air could pull the fuzzy off the mesh.

Mesh side IN.

Looks like a mis-made Home Grown Video to me, follow the written instructions. Jim

I have been washing the darker filter ( sponge type) just started using the white one as said leaving fuzzy side towards outside, do you have to clean the white one ever or just replace, first time using the white in combo.

The white fine filters are not washable/reusable, they are disposable and must be replaced (recommended every two weeks, I believe).

As said before, the white filters are NOT washable. They recommend changing every two weeks, but that depends drastically on how your air is in your house.

Typically in my house I can get 6 weeks to 2 months on one, and it will only be slightly gray at that time. However, I spend two weeks in Indonesia and If I had a spare filter with me, I would have changed it half way through. Two Weeks there and the filter was much worse than two months in my house.

Basically, change it when it looks like it needs it.

I am the goofball who made the video with the white filter facing the wrong direction. I have since changed it with the mesh side facing inward and the smooth side facing out the back of the machine.

Thanks for pointing out that it was still up on the site. I took it down. It will be replaced with an accurate version that has already been completed.

Apria installed my first filters and their guy wrote the date on the white filter.
I run lots of HEPA filters in my house and the white filter lasts around 2 months.

The foam filter needs washing about every 10 days or maybe I should say the black foam filter has a light tan on the outside, so I wash mine and my wife's.

I am currently trying to get Apria to set me up on the Medicare recommended schedule....I hope it eventually works.

Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.

Ted, just so you know, this is probably the most erotic statement made by a man on the internet ever.

Sigh... Why aren't there MORE men like you in the world?

Many thanks!
