Changing BiPAP Pressure?

Post by EdAPAP » Sun Dec 23, 2007 5:07 pm

How do I change the pressure setting on M Series Auto BiPAP?

Currently in bi level mode (ie non auto) with pressure set for IPAP = 17 and EPAP = 10.

I want to change to to auto mode and have IPAP range of 14-18 and keep EPAP at 10.

Is this possible?

Current BiPAP Pressure Settings: IPAP = 18, EPAP = 15

To change the pressures on any Respirionics machine is done the same way. So if you've changed pressures on your old machine then you already probably know how to do it.

You can setup a min EPAP and a max IPAP and then what the max spread between them can be (max ps). So if you can find a combination of those that equal what you'd like, then sure.

Unplug the machine.
Hold down the right/left arrow buttons (under the LCD cover) while plugging the machine in again. Keep holding the two buttons down for several seconds. After machine beeps twice you can release the two buttons. You're in the "Provider" menu.

Press the + button under the word "Setup." That puts you in the "Therapy Mode" menu where therapy settings can be changed.

Right/Left arrow buttons move back and forth through the menu screens. Plus and minus buttons make changes in the setting for the item on the screen.

I'd stongly suggest NOT using the + and - buttons to make changes the first time you go through the menu. Simply write down every setting, every symbol, every word you see on the screen for each item. Using only the left/right arrow buttons will let you go through the entire menu without making any changes.

Press the on/off button to exit from the Provider menu. Settings (and changes, if any were made) are automatically saved.

You can't keep the EPAP absolutely at 10 in autotitrating bilevel mode. EPAP and IPAP are going to vary separately as needed throughout the night if you turn on autotitration. The closest settings that would do what you have in mind would probably be:

auto bilevel

Max IPAP 18

Min EPAP 10

Max Press Sup 8 (that will keep IPAP from dragging EPAP up if IPAP does hit 18 sometimes and EPAP doesn't need to go up.)

As for the remainder of the menu settings...these are what I'd use, if it were me:

Bi-Flex Setting 3 (whatever a person likes that set at, or off.)

Autoramp time 0:00

Mask Alert Feature Off

Auto Off Feature Off

Split Night Time Off

Show AHI/Leak Feature On
Actually, I'd not look at that in the LCD much, if any. I prefer seeing greater details by downloading the Smart Card and using EncoreViewer software.

Patient Reminder Off

__________

Below are links to a couple of topics where I wrote about my understanding of the Max Press Sup (maximum pressure support) setting. That setting is called just "PS" on the older pre-M Bipap Auto with Bi-flex. It's the same setting whether called "PS" or "Max Press Sup" in the menu.
