Recorded Readings

Post by fehler » Fri Dec 21, 2007 12:41 am

How accuret are the readings on my machine for AHI and mask leakage. I have the M Series Pro C-flex CPAP. My first week averages are 1.4 AHI and 33 min mask leakage.

Thanks Frank

The data on these CPAPs are reasonably accurate. And certainly your AHI of 1.4 is to be considered excellent. Respironics is a good company and makes excellent products. The Pro is a good CPAP. Unless you have reason to suspect your Pro has a problem I'd be more than comfortable relying on its data.

If your leak rate on that mask is 33, you need to fix the leaks. Leaks that are too high can skew the data. Check the leak rate(exhaust rate) chart that came with the mask.

Well, w/o knowing the pressure setting I didn't bother to check which mask is being used. The higher the pressure the higher the accepted leak rate. In addition to which these CPAPs do an excellent job of compensating for leaks.

Fehler, have you check the literature that came w/your mask for the accepted leak rate for your mask at your pressure?

Intentional leak rates get higher as the pressure does -

Leak rates table

If your pressure is in the vicinity of 16 or above you're doing fine. Much below that - you're leaking too much.

If you add your pressure as a comment in your profile, we'll always know what it is and you won't have to remind us.

My pressure is 12. and acording to the documentation my mask has a rate of 30 at a pressure of 12.

The mask you show in your profile has a leak rate of 27.8 according to the chart in the link. If you are showing a minimum leak of 33, your leaks are too high. Not terrible, but could be much better. Getting every little thing tweaked as best you can will make a difference.

Will drive you crazy!!! Trying to get EVERYTHING exact.

Not to mention it is also making the BIG assumption that ALL machines are calibrated exactly the same (or correctly), including the mask manufacturers.

There are tolerances and errors permitted throughout life.
