so discouraged

Post by dreamR » Mon Dec 10, 2007 3:30 pm

Thanx for all the replies. After spending all day on the phone with the ins, health care group, dr, and apria ... im just giving up and taking in the ______ mask. The insurance said that I had to do whatever Apria said in regards to their 30 xchange policy and after being on the phone with even the supervisor .. I give the heck up. I will forget the mask .. then I will take it bk to them after I know that I have something I can breath through. I need a pulm doc instead of a pcp ... he is the first problem on my list of this crappy apnea nightmare!

I have so many questions ... I think I will ask the next question in a new post. Regarding masks and how to tell what kind I might need.

Sorry you are having so much trouble. My first DME sounds like Apria but wasn't. It was a nightmare but I had the luxury of having the insurance's blessing to ditch the first DME and go with another one.

I suggest that when the DME is fitting you for a new mask, you insist that you try the masks while lying down, connected to a cpap, at your pressure, and with features you are used to (e.g., exhalation relief). Set aside plenty of time and don't let them rush you.

There are some mask fitting tips under the Red Ball w/the Question Mark in it at the top of the page. Some are those I learned from my sleep lab manager, others I've experimented with that worked for me and yet others that I picked up reading the forums. Hopefully they will help you out with any masks you try. What's really lacking in those tips tho are tips for success w/nasal pillows type of masks. I've been meaning to collect the tips I see in the forums from those who've worked thru successfully fitting and using nasal pillows ... but the road to h*ll is paved w/good intentions and I haven't done so yet. Maybe by now someone else has. Scroll thru the offerings under the Red Ball and see what you can find.

I assume you've already clicked on the Yellow Lightbulb and gone thru "Our Collected Wisdom" for tips sleeping w/CPAP, dealing w/insurance and DME suppliers, etc.
