Sleep Weaver Cloth Mask 1st night

Post by swtsassy65 » Tue Dec 04, 2007 5:49 am

Hi Everyone,
I thought I would post my first night experiance useing the sleep weaver cloth mask.

It was not the greatest 1st night. First of all the smell is bad. I just turned on the cpap and let it run for awhile and with sleepguys product it was alot better after awhile. Thanks Sleepguy

Then came the ajusting As with any new mask trying to get the right spot is essentionl. Maybe it is me but I found the velcro on the straps to be bothersome in the sense I would go to ajust the headstrap and it would stick to the other straps.
After about 30 mn. and not so good language and my kids fits of laughter calming down I thought I had gotten it. Then I layed down and blammo it started leaking in my eyes.

So then came the reajusting again. I turned the machine off and that did seem to help with this process. After a few trys I got it to feel partly ok and only some leaks but not to bad.

Lights off to the groans of my kids who thought I looked like a elephant.
I made it about 5 hrs with it on. Then came out the old trusty broke in mask.

I noticed it was loud when the leaks started. It seemed everytime I turned or had to scoot down the pillow to give the cat room. He decided with the new mask he had to guard the top of my head from blowwing off.

The reajustment were alot. Easy pulling on the nose part did help. If the mask got crunched up it also started to leak. When I finaly gave up I did
have the marks on the face from how tight I had to have it. Pada might need you here.
I will try again this weekend when I dont have to work the next day and have alot more time to play with it.

So far it is a lot lighter weight then my actvia and I can see where you would not need the air vent holes. Also they shipped it on Thursday and I got it Monday. Pretty good that way also. My kids also seemed to get a good laugh so that is a plus. I think

I would have like the instructions to be bigger writing. I am a old 42 and the small print is a pain in the butt to me.
Any ideas or insite for this 2nd night?? Throw them this way.

So now off to get the kids up for school.
I am looking forwad to the others 1st night reviews.

Thanks,
Sassy the elephent hosehed ??

I'm so excited to see that someone finally tried this mask. I'm hoping that you can work out all the kinks with it and keep us informed along the way. I've been wanting to order one, but don't want to spend that kind of money until I hear about some one else's experiences.

Good luck!

Last night was my first night with the SleepWeaver as well. Circadiance offered to send one to me at no charge for trying it and sharing results. Ordered last Thursday, arrived on Monday.

This mask is hard to describe. If you make me try I would say it is a gray fabric elephant trunk, nose pup tent thingy. If you haven't seen it, go to the Circadiance website:

http://www.circadiance.com

Earlier tonight I posted my experience from last last night, but I am editing my post to delete that information because I want to try the mask a few more nights to get more experience, and because I feel an obligation to report my experience to Circadiance first before making a public posting. I will post here in a few more days.

Hi Sassy--It's funny--with the machine turned off, you should not have had ANY leaks

You see preemiern. It should help but it didnt because it has this little flap thingy that goes like over your nose inside the "trunk". I turned off the machine and felt a tickle on the bottom of my nose.
very irritating

it felt like it was going in and out with the air.

SleepWeaver crown strap probably not necessary for most

Post by Guest » Wed Dec 05, 2007 8:11 pm

lately the Sleepweaver has been shipped with all three straps attached. Try to use it without the crown strap, the one that goes from side to side over the top of the head. You won't usually need that one unless the head strap slides a lot during sleep. The neck strap is the most important one to have at the right snugness.

Mine was delayed by a shipping snafu. Hope it comes tomorrow. Make sure you call the company to talk about any problems or comments you have. They are very open to our feedback and seem very eager to produce a product that will work well and help people. They actually called me this evening to apologize for the shipping problem and to ask me to call and speak to the designer/develper of the mask if I had any problems or questions. This impressed me and also made me think.

This is a new company. They have a lot riding on what we think and frankly are taking a big risk by doing this. Research and development is very expensive and they have had to have worked very hard to get this thing to market. So I am going to take this very seriously.

My husband is in Research and Development for a small company in a totally unrelated field, so maybe I am really in tune with the Circadience folks and get where they are coming from.

You really have to applaud them--forming a new company, developing a truly radical new design. It could be the first of many products they develop in the future that could help all of us and the many who come after us. They must be very brave individuals!

I'm excited to receive my box and give it a try!

I just got off the phone a little while ago with the designer/develper. Very nice guy and he is a cpap user. He was very nice and open to sugestions and also gave alot of good advice on how to get this mask to seal the best.

I went and played with the mask some using what he sugested and it really helped alot. I might just use it tonight instead of waiting for the weekend.

Also earlier I also talked to a custermer service person and they also were very helpful and very intrested in the truth of the feedback. This to me is also impressive. It is not allways that a company wants to hear the good and the bad. At least not the ones I have dealt with.

Hopefully you will get yours soon Jen. I belive you will like it. I must say after the tips given it is very comfortable and lightweight. And a plus for me is that my high pressure it is easy to breathe with.

Sassy

I am sooooo curious! How does the mask feel on the skin? Soft, stiff, scratchy? Lightweight is good...one of the problems I have is the weight of the masks.

Jen....you are correct. I applaud them for taking the steps necessary to bring something new to the market.

I know what you mean by the weight of the masks. My actvia is not light

To be honest it feels soft and very lightweight. If you have it on you can barley feel it at all. Which is a big plus for the nose.

Circadiance invited me to call them to provide assistance with any problems I am experiencing. I want to do that, just haven't taken the time. After hearing swtsassy65 's experience with them over the phone, I will call them tomorrow.

Bamalady -- the material is soft, not scratchy. I don't particularly like how the "trunk" of the mask lays across my lips/mouth. I think, though, that is something I would get used to quickly and no longer be bothered by it.

I used the mask almost all night for my second night, but awoke about 5am with leak problems and removed the mask at that point. The first night I wore it all night. I will talk to Circadiance, get any tips they have about leak management, try out their suggestions, then post more details about my experience.

Thanks for the feedback, Swtsassy and JZ. Sounds good.

I use the Activa, too, Swtsassy. The seal is great, but the bulkiness is bothersome.

Update 2nd night

Post by swtsassy65 » Thu Dec 06, 2007 6:52 am

I thought I would update everyone on my 2ed night with the SleepWeaver cloth mask.

Well I did try the ajustments like I was told to last night. I must say they did make a big difference with the comfort of the mask and also the leaks I was having problems with. In fact I did sleep the whole night with it on.

The only major problem I had was when I first laid down and had to cough. The seal just went to potts for some reason. I had to get up and restart the fitting all over. It really did not take to long.
I did wake up a few times with some leaks but applied what I was told and WALA fixed the problem and right back to sleep. All it took was a slight pull on the nose part and that was it.

I did switch the hose around last night so it did go over my head. I have a longer hose so the mask was not bent when i did it. I did not experiance any problems with airflow or anything when I did this even after i turned.

I am a side and stonch sleeper and had no problem in either postion. In fact when I was on my stomch it felt alot alot more comfortable then when I have my other mask on. I did enjoy not having the mask digging into my nose or forehead.

Bamlady I will tell you compared to the Actvia it is like it is not there.
I was concerned about what JZ said as to the fact it would be bothersome. To be honest after a few mintues and no tape I had no problems and it did not irritate me at all. I do think that feeling the trunk part of the mask there might have stopped the mouth breathing. At least my b/f said he did not here me snoring at all last night and my mouth is not dry so I take that as a positive.

I think that about covers it for now.

Sassy

What suggestions were made?
