Looking for quiet APAP

Post by Spiritus » Sat Dec 01, 2007 10:34 am

Hi folks,

Nine months ago, I posted to ask what the quietest mask/machine combo might be. I ended up getting a Soyola - which is both comfortable and very quiet. My machine is a Resmed Spirit - circa December 2004. Lately, I've been noticing that the machine is seeming very loud. Likely it seems loud right now, because it's winter, and the windows are shut all the time. But also, the machine has started doing a very strange thing. While just sitting there, without me attached to it, it suddenly starts reving up lke a jet spooling up. Usually that isn't a problem, because I'm attached to the machine, and it only does it when I'm not. But the few times my Wife has gone to bed early, and I'm not there, it has woken her up.

In any case, I think I'm ready to start looking for a new APAP. My main criteria are:

1) Good therapy
2) Quiet
3) Good reporting software.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Rob

It can be luck of the draw as to what sound any autopap of any brand might make. Some leave the manufacturing line quiet; some not so quiet.

If it had to be an autopap and "quiet" were my main consideration and the other two items you mentioned were important (but not as important as "quiet") the autopap I'd get is the older pre-M Respironics REMstar Auto with C-flex.
ResMed S9 VPAP Auto (ASV)
Humidifier: Integrated + Climate Control hose
Mask: Aeiomed Headrest (deconstructed, with homemade straps
3M painters tape over mouth
