BiPAP Auto--stay auto or go fixed with 90% numbers?

Post by PeaceSleeper » Fri Nov 30, 2007 2:36 pm

I've been moving back and forth between my Respironics BiPAP Auto, in auto mode and running it in fixed mode using the 90% numbers. I seem to get lower AHI in auto mode. Is there a preference (or concern) to go one way or the other?
Peace.

I don't know if there is a preference and I have only been using mine for three months, but I run in Auto mode.

My reasoning is that if I need a burst of high pressure the auto mode will provide it while allowing me to spend most of the night at lower pressures. Of course, my prescribed pressure is pretty high at 20/18. That pressure was based on my sleeping flat on my back which I rarely do.

Keep in mind that the 90% pressures are those that represent the pressures at, and below which, you spend 90& of the night. So, you could be spending a good chunk of the night at lower pressures.

Good luck,
Susan

Try to keep a diary of how you feel at each mode - and decide according to that.

Seems like a rather simple answer to me......go with the settings that give you the best therapy (the "numbers" AND how you feel).
Isn't that why you bought a versatile, multi-mode machine?
