What is your weight and CPAP pressure?

Post by mamayaya » Wed Nov 28, 2007 11:01 pm

When I started CPAP therapy, I weighed about 220 and my pressure was at 9. Now I'm 286 and I know for a fact that I need a higher pressure. I'm wondering if other people needed re-titration because of weight gain and what your weight/CPAP pressure level is... if you don't mind telling.

Weight is only one factor of many, More weight might cause a need for more pressure in some but not in others. That's why you need a APAP, and the software to read your progress, or your own sleep center. Jim

Weight & Pressure

Post by SleepyNoMore » Wed Nov 28, 2007 11:42 pm

My weight is about 130 and when I had the Remstar Pro (while on the trial) my Pressure was set on 9, then I got the Remstar Auto and the pressure is set on 4.5/20 and if I we're to set it on straight cpap, it would be back at the 9 I guess , I might need a 10 by now, who knows! I'm glad I purchased the Auto, sometimes my pressure has gone up as high as 12.5 !

I dont' think this can be judged by weight, but I agree that a weight gain could change your number. Just to add to the confusion, i weigh 230 and I was titrated at an 8. I use the M-series APAP with A-flex. This will be my second night to use it, so I'm not sure what pressures my unit is adjusting to just yet.

If you have an auto, the doctor should be able to look at your 90% mark from your smart card and determine if you have gone up. Just a thought.

I don't have an auto... just a regular ol CPAP. It's been quite awhile since I've had a sleep study. I'm dreading it. It's not a big deal but it's a whole lot of time when you are a single mom with 2 babies and a full time job too.

I guess if I ever get the chance to get in for one, I'll mention getting an auto instead.

5'8", 125 lbs, 12-19 lpm. Weight doesn't always have anything to do with OSA. In fact, those of us who don't meet the sterotype often go misdiagnosed for years. I complained to my doctors that I couldn't sleep for 30 years before they would set me up for a sleep study.
Diagnosed 9/4/07
Sleep Study Titrated to 19 cm H2O
Rotating between Activa and Softgel
11/2/07 RemStar M Series Auto with AFlex 14-17
10/17/08 BiPAP Auto SV 13/13-23, BPM Auto, AHI avg <1

I weight about 70kg (155lbs). My pressure is now 15, 90% at 17. At this measurements, I am not overweight (BMI < 25), yet the pressure is high.

You could get a APAP, that records data and a reader and software, and skip the retest. Then you would have a better machine, and the cost might be cheaper than the test. Your old script will get you a new machine. Jim
