Water in mask problem

Post by kwa430 » Tue Nov 20, 2007 10:27 am

First, thanks to everyone for help on my previous posts. I'm now at least not taking my mask of during the night and using AYR gel has really helped the soreness at the tip of my nose.

Now I have another question. I am using the F&P HC604 with the OPUS mask. I have the unit temp at 2.5 and the heater hose at 3. The house temp goes to 60 at night. I'm getting moisture inside the nasal pillow to the point where, at some time during the night, I will roll onto my back and get a stream of water run down my nose. What a "unique" way of waking up.

Do I have the wrong settings on my machine? Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can stop this or is it just a matter of playing with the settings?

TIA

kwa, you've experienced what's called "rainout". It's generally caused by too much of a differential between the humidified air coming from your XPAP and the temp of your room. Even with the heated hose, a room temp of 60 is probably gonna cause some water condensation.

A couple of things that have been recommended over and over: 1) put your XPAP lower than your bed so the water can drain back into it instead of into the mask and 2) either raise the temp of your room or back down on the humidifier setting.

Good luck!

Or get the Aussie heated hose ... it works incredibly well. Available from Australia or from cpapsupplyusa (or something like that). Both end up being close to $150

It not only takes care of rainout, it also keeps the incoming air at a comfortable temperature so you won't feel like you're outside on a cold and windy day!
