First night with Quattro

Post by TWolf » Sat Nov 17, 2007 2:16 pm

I've been at this for six months now and it was time for a new mask. I switched DME's because the first one was bought out and stopped taking my insurance (well, that and they sucked). Much better experience. The tech trotted out about six or eight masks without me prompting or asking, she was very knowledgable and helpful.

I've tried several masks since the beginning but have always come back to the Breeze. The only reason I'm looking to change is due to the mouth leaking. I tape and it has been working but lately I've been having problems with it during the night. The tape comes loose and I leak and wake up. Didn't happen before and I'm not sure why it started. I haven't changed anything.

I ended up walking out with the Quattro. I tried it last night and it's much too early to tell but I am very hopeful. It is by far the most comfortable full face I've tried. It had the best fit and leaks were negligble and easy to stop with minor adjustment. It is quiet and I had no problem side sleeping. I can't say I slept well last night but I attribute that mostly to having a new mask rather than problems with the Quattro specifically. I'm far from declaring it a winner but so far so good. After I've used it for a while I'll give an update.

I've had my Quattro for six weeks, have just loved it--until three days ago when I awoke with a sore feeling bridge of my nose, complete with a red mark--almost like it is bruised. I've tried to adjust the mask, just cannot seem to get it right again. Last night I used my Ultra Mirage which doesn't seem to put as much pressure on my bridge. I'm planning to continue trying to adjust my Quattro, but it seems that when I adjust the MicroFit dial to decrease the pressure, it leaks! Cannot figure out what has changed--it was so great for almost a month and a half.

I hear ya Ted. It was like that with the tape. Everything's going great and all of a sudden something that was working really well doesn't anymore. It makes no sense and complicates the treatment. It seems neverending.

I had the nose bridge problem with the F&P 431. It was the best fitting full face I had tried (in terms of leaks) but the very first night it left me felling like I had been punched. Not just sore but bruised like you said. I hope the Quattro doesn't end up like that.

Yep, I really LOVED my Quattro--just cannot figure out what changed. Maybe my nose grew last week :<) I'm not giving up on it, but it is a little discouraging to know that things can change like this over night.

Just got my Quatro last night, and i like it so far. Pretty comfortable and it's the first FF mask that's fit with no leaks. I agree about the excessive pressure at the bridge of my nose, though. It puts much more pressure on the bridge than my Activa.

Ted,
I'm no expert, but i wonder if the mask isn't sealing as well as it used to, so you're tightening it more. I've noticed that other masks require a bit more tension as they age. It helps to clean the silicon often.

Hope this helps some.

CPAP Works! Some nights are better than others, but when i sleep, i'm sleeping WAY better.

Hmm! Could be. It's only 6 weeks old, and I've washed it daily, but that's the best explanation I've heard.

Thanks!

Ted
