Silverlining download problems

Post by TWolf » Sat Nov 17, 2007 2:25 pm

I have a PB Goodknight 420S and Silverlining software. It doesn't do everything but it does give me some data to work with. I've had problems downloading from the start but I've always been able to (eventually) get the data and update the file.

Yesterday I got a new mask and wanted to see how I did last night. I went through the steps as always but the file never updated. It only had data up to the last time I downloaded. The screen with the graphic of the machine comes up and indicates it's connected. The blue bar goes across indicating the download. Then nothing. Sometimes I get an error message that lets me switch to the patient analysis screen and when I open the file the data is there but today it wasn't. There is communication with the machine because I can change settings but I can't close that screen without windows telling me it's not responding.

Anybody else experience this or have an idea what may be wrong?

Thanks

TW

Not to worry, Twolf.

You've reached the 200 session limit, at which point the new session pushes out session no. 1. (First In First Out) and then gets no. 1 for its own use.

You'll find the new session at the top of the session list.

So now is the time to save the file, clear the patient results data (via the configuration module - make sure you don't erase everything), and start again with a new session file.

Okay. I guess that wasn't the problem.

I saved, cleared and started again. It's now doing the same thing. There are only four nights worth of data but it's not showing up anywhere. I get the blue download progress bar. Sometimes I get a message that says there's a problem and to "switch" "retry" or "cancel" sometimes not. The machine's control screen can't be closed by selecting exit or clicking on the "X". It seems like it's hung up but it does communicate with the machine - I can change flow and other settings and can turn the machine on and off from the computer screen. There's just no data in the file. It indicates it's downloading, I just don't know where it's going.

I was going to try uninstalling the software and reinstalling it but moved recently and I can't lay my hands on the disk right now.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thinking out loud:
You can communicate with the machine, so its not a blocked computer to machine communications problem.

You start reading the data, and then, in the middle of the download, reading stops with an error message that implies (to me) that communication with the machine was lost.

Up to this point, as far as I know, the software doesn't attempt to create a file - and it won't do so till you instruct it to do that.

Can you communicate with the machine after this download failure as well as before it?

The possilbilities are: a download problem (e.g. the port can't handle the stream of data, or the data the software recieves is corrupted while being transmitted) or a data saving problem - the machine is not saving what it should, or corruting it, or a cpap transmission problem - it the machine's com port is not handling the stream of data. I have no idea which of them it is.

Can try another cable? Switch to another port? Can you try a USB to com converter and work through the USB (I did that in the past with no problems, you just have to buy the cable)?. That would exclude (or identify) a computer hardware problem.

What happens when you try to open an older data file? Do you get all the info? Can you then save it under another name?

Don't confuse downloading and viewing the data with saving the file.
