cpap machine placement

Post by jhollon » Fri Nov 16, 2007 10:55 am

does it matter if my machine is on the floor next to the bed or does it have to be at the same level as me when i am laying down. Just curious

The machine should actually be slightly lower than your head. Mine is on a very low shelf. Before it found it's present home-my machine was on same level as me and I experienced the DREADED RAINOUT a couple of nights.

Mine is 24" below my head and I still have rainout problems.

I just want to go back to sleep!

My machine is at the same level as my mattress. The hose is looped up over the headboard, so as to avoid entanglement while I sleep. I have no problems with rainout. (Humidifier set at 2.)

I doubt the height of the machine matters at all in the treatment. I think placement is mostly a matter of what is convenient for you.

I keep mine on the floor. 1 1/2 yrs and no problems.

Question - does your hose run up over your head (when you're laying down)?

You want the CPAP lower than ANY part of the CPAP hose. The reason is that IF you get any RAIN OUT it will drain back into the humidifier.
