Sinus hell
Sinus hell
Was a cold night and the heat was on in the house for the first time. I also did not fill up the humidifier in the CPAP machine.
I woke up that morning with nasal passages dry and like sandpaper.
I had also gotten over a bad cold about a week before. Hell began.
I have not had this kind of sinus pain in 40 years! The cold returned.
I have been miserable for two weeks now.
Have some pain now, and coughing spells, but seems to be getting a bit better.
I think I may go to the ER saturday. Going to your regular doctor is usually useless, since they can just talk and prescribe.
The ER can do some tests and such I suppose. They usually give good help anyway.
Yech.
I have been taking different OTC meds. Little helps.

I know the feeling. There isn't enough room here to list all I've tried. But currently, when I start to feel dry I turn up the humidifier-- way up even if I have rainout. And that's with heated Aussie hose and the F&P humidifier on the floor. This is crazy but, I've run out of water a few times. During the day, I'll use Simple Saline every few hours to rinse/clean. I'll do this for a few days until everything feels good. Then I slowly turn the humidifier till no rainout and ease the saline rinses.
I hope all works out for you.

I am a bit puzzled by the humidity/sinus situation.
The machine uses room air? We breath room air without the machine.
It's the SAME air! Why does the mask make a difference??? Is it the
air pressure? Does the pressurized air have a lower moisture content then the room air?
I have added a humidifier to my house...in the kitchen on the floor. It seems to help the house humidity.
Sinus's are not as bad now.

I haven't cleaned my hose or changed my filter in a long time, and I'm wondering if that's part of my sinus problems. Have you been doing either?fredpb wrote:I am a bit puzzled by the humidity/sinus situation.

I think the issue is the greater pressure is more drying. Like how your lips dry out on a windy day. More air movement = more evaporation.
I actually think for me the humidity is as useful as the air pressure. Before cpap I woke up every morning with a dry scratchy throat and sinuses. That would cause swelling and I couldn't breathe through my nose for most of the morning. Now, I wake up and I can breathe normally.

Seems like you were asking for trouble by not using humidification......even passover would have been better than nothing.
