Humidifer not working right??

Post by CarrieS » Wed Nov 14, 2007 2:39 pm

FOr the last month my humidifer doesnt seem to be working right I even have it cranked and have no rainout. Im in MI and its much drier this time of year but it setill doesnt seem right. My husband is kind enough to wash my thing tank when he goes to lock up at night and Im hoping he just hasnt been locking it right cause today when I inspected I noticed it wasnt clicked I think. There is definite condensation in it....is there any ohter trouble shooting Im not thinking of? I use to turn it just past half and get rainout now I crank it and still wake up a little dry. Especially after trying my Liberty for the first time last night - holy dry mouth/chapped lips!!! Im sure theyll replace it but before I take it in I just want to make sure theres not something really simple Im just completely missing? ANy suggestions?

Do you fill it up to the maximum line every night? I've found with mine, if I don't fill it all the way up, it just doesn't work well.

I've not found the ResMed 3i to be adequate for Michigan winters, unless the humidity in the room is about 50%. Have used a room humidifier to accomplish this, but then the room is too humid for my wife. Am thinking that I'll likely get a different humidifier for the coming winter. We have a hygrometer (humidity gauge) that we use in our room. With the humidity above 50% (as it was up until about a month ago) I needed to turn the setting on the 3i down, or I had rainout. At 50% room humidity, rainout seldom happened, even with the 3i running full out. I only run a pressure of 6.8 to 10 on my auto; a higher pressure would probably result is even less perceived humidity delivered.

All that said, it could be that your humidifier is actually defective.

WE have a house humidifer but Im not sure how well its working we just moved in and the only way I can ever tell was premask at night and so now Im not sure maybe Ill have to get a meter to find out. Can you hook up different humidfiers to the Resmed or do you have to get a whole new machine? We di not fill it up all the way but I will try that as well, thanks so much for the ideas, if filling it up doesnt deem helpful I will talk to the DME about changing it or try bring a humifier in the room to test that.

Have you felt underneath it, to make sure it is heating up? I would turn your dial from low to high a couple times. Slap it around. (just kidding).........but DO turn the dial a few times. Hopefully it is just a matter of needing more water (you use distilled, right?). It blows the air across the top of the water, and if the water is too low, it just might not be picking it up well enough. Keep us posted. I'm interested in hearing how it turns out.

There is condensation in there at times Ive noticed so I do think its heating....but not sure if Ive noticed condensation all the time just one specfic time that I looked. I have played with the knob too in hopes that it was glitch like my van heater did once before but nothing...well Im fillin it to full tonight wish me luck. I dont own a standalone humidifier but I do have the girls' vaporizer humidifier that maybe worth a test run if it comes down to it....again Im curious to findout if I can hook other humidifers to my Vantage if Resmed makes different types...off to research.
