The FedEx guy was just here. All he was bringing up the walk was a small envelope. I joked with him that I hope it was something fun. He looked at the package and asked if I was sleeping okay. ??? I said I was. He then said he thought it must be a part for my bed and mentioned who it was from. I said "Oh, that must be the new filter for my CPAP machine." He asked me what that was for (the CPAP machine). I told him that I had sleep apnea and I slept with a mask on to help me breathe at night. Then he was telling me that he thought that he might have that because he would wake up gasping for air. He also said that he woke up for apparently no reason as well, that he thought it must have been his daughter's cat waking him up. He said he's noticed it more since he got divorced a couple of years ago because no one is elbowing him awake. (He also said his kidneys feel much better though - because of the lack of elbowing.) He was asking me where I went for the study and what did they do, etc. Our local news channel just had a story on sleep apnea, sleep studies and how the treatment worked. He said he had tried to stay awake for it but missed part of it. He asked me if I could tell a difference, if I slept all night, etc. I told him how great I felt all day long and that I did sleep all night now. He had to get back to his deliveries but he said he might have to stop back some other time to talk about sleep apnea and "all that."

I wonder if my DME provides referral bonuses.....

Like you train of thought & Story -but- REFERRAL to any DME I think should be AVOIDED!

I did mention that once he gets the prescription from his doctor that prices online are MUCH better than through the DME. I told him the price differences, etc. Although for me, I've been lucky with my DME. When I found out that CPAP machine wasn't right for me, I was able to bring it back and get a new BiPAP machine. After a year's use, but still within warranty, the BiPAP machine started making a strange noise (possibly a bearing) and I brought it in last week and they gave me a new BiPAP machine. I don't know how lucky I'd have been if I had bought the original machine online. (Especially the trading it for a BiPAP.) I wouldn't hesitate to buy a mask online (or from folks in the forum or the auction place).
