Reaction to mask

Post by LuvRedDogs » Thu Nov 08, 2007 10:24 pm

I have a Respironics OptiLite. I am trying to get used to the machine and everything but there is a problem. I have been having what I discribe as "chemical burns" around my nose and upper lip where the nasal pillows touch.
I don't like the mask that I was sent home with from the sleep lab and being a side sleeper this one seemed like the best one to try.
Any information would be helpful.

Thanks Pam

Always soak any new mask in warm soapy water for 30-60 minutes before using it (unless the manual clearly says not to that, the you should try to soak the part that touches your face.).

I too got chemical burns from the first Respironics mask I tried - found this suggestion made by a company rep. in a chat, and that solved the burns problem. I have been doing that to all new equipment since.
