A Night Without PAP

Post by MartiniLover » Wed Nov 07, 2007 5:10 pm

Monday, I had a Flu shot at the Doctors. I had a reaction, and thought I was literally going to die. I went to bed 3 hours early with severe chills, achy muscles, and probably a brain malfunction. I was in bed 12 hours.

I took off my mask as I couldn't stand the cold air blowing when I was so chilled. It seemed like too much effort to raise the temperature on the humidifier.

Big Mistake!!!

Yesterday I felt a lot better, but the effects of not having my mask and machine was terrible. I was miserable all day. I walked arourd feeling like I had brain damage.

Last nights sleep was great.

Today I am feeling more back to normal, but am looking forward to tonight and tomorrow. I know I will feel better.

It's amazing how one night without xpap will set you back. I just got over a bad cold/almost bronchitis thing. Sunday night I was so stopped up. At three in the morning I couldn't stand the air blowing in and having virtually no place to go. I propped myself up on the couch for the rest of the night. I was still sick the next day, but felt worse because of not being able to stay on the machine all night. The next night I stayed on it until just a bit before time to get up. Thing s were also a bit better that day. Last night I stayed on it all night. I just had to be careful not to roll onto my back. I was back at work today and feeling pretty decent again.

Wow Martinilover......that was a pretty strong reaction to that shot! Is that normal for you?

Do you all feel like you sleep comfortably when you don't use your machine, even if you feel like crap the next day? I can't believe how comfy I feel when I don't use my machine. It feels like heaven. The next day isn't so great, but boy is it nice without the machine.

Thank goodness I can use the machine again! I hate to not be able to use it. When I haven't used it, and those times I could count on one hand, I felt very inadequate without it. It's hard to get to sleep because as soon as I do, I start having apneas and I'm awakened several times before being able to stay asleep. I also find myelf waking more frequently as the night wears on as well. I have gotten to the point where I really don't think about the mask anymore. It feels "normal" now. I feel like I'm missing something or "naked" when I go to bed without it. I also find that I sleep in the exact same positions now whether on the machine or not. It really doesn't affect my comfort level as far as getting comfortable. In fact, it's worse without it.

No to the Flu Shot question. I get one every year and never have even had a sore arm. As I told my wife, it was just a freak thing. I wouldn't hesitate again.

I sleep much better with the machine on. Since I got over the initial problem of taking the mask off during the night, I now sleep a lot longer than I used to. I average about 8 1/2 hours a night on the machine. I used to only get about 7 hours. Needless to say a hour plus everyday should make me feel a lot better. I have hardly any sinus problems and haven't had a cold since starting.
