CPAP and Hangovers

Post by ozalchemist » Wed Oct 31, 2007 6:23 pm

As I get older, I , like many, drink far less. Not only for the good of my health, but the fact that it knocks me about far more than when I was twenty one.

These days a few glasses of wine can leave me feeling seedy the next day.... until....

I started on CPAP with a humidifier.

Has anyone else found that the dehydrating effect of alcohol appears to be mitigated by the machine nect to the bed blowing wet air into yu all nght?

Even if I have a glass to many (i.e. a third one!) these days, I find that I feel fine the next morning?

By contrast, with the A/C on (and it's dehumidifying effect) and no CPAP, a couple of glasses of wine can give me a headache easily the next day.

Have I just dicovered a new marketing idea for RESMED?

Trust me, I'm a chemist...

I suppose having adequate O2 while you sleep helps to metabolize it more quickly.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

I think a big part of the old hangovers was the combination of the ill effects of alcohol and the even worse effects of airway collapse caused by the muscle relaxing effect of alcohol. Now that you are on cpap you are just dealing with the alcohol.

I remember one particular pre-cpap event where I certainly drank too much, but had a hangover completely out of proportion to the amount I drank. The two day migraine, the heart palpitations, the wiggly-eye thing that I thought might be a form of seizure. It was crazy. That hasn't happened to me since cpap.

But I think you are totally right about the humidity, no more cotton mouth. Though, I two have a two drink limit. A third puts me over the edge to hangover.

my sure-fire hangover cure: Emergen-C, get it at Walgreens. It cures what ails ya.
