My First Nighttime Catastrophe!

Post by dieselgal » Mon Oct 29, 2007 11:09 am

OK Catastrophe may be to harsh a word, but Friday night I was sleeping pretty soundly and something work me up, at the time I was sure what it was. As I lay there I realized I could hear a huge leak. Thinking I had somehow pulled loose from the hose, I reached up and checked the mask and that wasn't it, I was still connected.

It turns out that my hose had come pretty much unraveled just below the connector where it hooks to the mask. It had torn loose at the rubber and was coming uncoiled! I guess what woke me up was not breathing well since no air was coming into the mask.

Thank goodness I had my old hose to go back to but getting that replaced in a groggy state wasn't fun either. Anyway I got it done and went back to dreamland, but I am now wondering about that hose.

I purchased that hose from someone on Ebay along with a couple of other things and it was brand new, sealed etc.

Are all hoses created equal?

Since I twist and turn at night I do stress my hose and mask so this is important to me!

Maybe that hose was just "aged" even tho sitting on a shelf or in a drawer somewhere in its original packaging. Maybe it was exposed to too much heat over an extended period of time even tho still in the packaging and not used. It could have just been "brittle" from age and that is why it "gave up the ghost" so soon after you started using it. Either way, your night sounds like mine last night. Nothing serious but not one of our best.

...can't handle florescent light or sun! Could be it had sat on a shelf, under lights or too close to a window. That thin plastic between the wire will rot in a flat, hot minute! I think I'd write to them and complain!
