sore nostrils using resmed liberty mask
sore nostrils using resmed liberty mask
I recently started using the ResMed Liberty mask with the nose pillows and most mornings my nostrils hurt. I was wondering if anyone has expierience this or knows if there is something to make it a little less uncomfortable. I do have a very high setting at 20 any info would be appreiciated
It's not unusual for the nostrils to hurt at first. From my brief experience and from the posts I've read here, this discomfort with abate with time. I used the Liberty mask for a while. I found it to be uncomfortable mostly around the mouth and especially below my nose. I could never get it to seal very well and so I had to wear it tight. I suppose you've tried different size pillows. Others may have more insight into things to try.

Ayr's saline gel w/ aloe ... use til your nares toughen up. Most folks who use pillow style interfaces get the raw nares until they get used to it ... took about a month or two for me ... but the saline gel was a great relief during that period.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
I had the same problem when I used the Liberty. The trampoline pillows pushed up against my nose and my poor nose got so sore that I gave it up for a few days and switched back to Hybrid for it to heal. Thinking my nose could have become use to it, I returned to the Liberty and it's trampoline pillows only to get not only a sore nosey but a sore area above my lip between my lip and nose. I tried to make it work and even suffered through two broken parts (my dme was use to this problem and had parts) over a 4 week period. My 16/20 pressure needs leave me only one mask that has worked for any length of time in comfort and that's my old trusty Hybrid (new shell version) with the borrowed headgear from another FF mask. I'm so thankful that someone made soft pillows that hold up to high pressures. My dme thinks the chinflap is what makes the Hybrid outsell the Liberty because it keeps the mask in place and is a huge comfort factor after 5 or 6 hours of wearing a full face mask.
I have also upgraded to biLevel and need to update me profile.

I tried the Liberty and found that it, like Swift, Opus, OptiLife and all the other nasal pillows that I tried which have straps on the side of my face caused nostril pain.
I find that laying on my side exerts force againss the straps such that I get lateral pressure on the pillows -->sore nose.
I also found that the Liberty lost it's seal on my cheeks (even though I shaved off my beard and 'stache) at a pressure over 10. I'm amazed that you are getting a seal at 20.

I'm getting a a pretty good seal on the Hybrid nasal pillows at 20 as well. Which kind of surprised me as I read that this wasn't a good mask for high pressures.
I am careful to not over tighten the straps since I am a side sleeper, favoring one side over the other: the opposing side gets a snugger fit.

Re: sore nostrils using resmed liberty mask
I just changed from a Quattro mask to the Liberty. I may need to have eye surgery so I want to keep my eyes from getting puffy. My nose hurt a lot the first time but it has been getting better as the days go on. It's only been a week so I think it will work out. I made a mask liner for the cushion as I did before for my Quattro. For anyone who suffers from a leaking mask, you should give this a try. I made a pattern by tracing the cushion and adding about and inch or so all the way around, leaving the breathing hole the same size. I cut my liners out of flannelette but old T-shirts would work good too. Just place them between the cushion and your face when you put your mask on. I rinse them out in the morning and then cut new ones when they wear out. It worls awesome on the Quattro mask and so far no leaking on the Liberty. You can buy these online but it costs about $30 a month - my way is free! And your cushions may last longer. Hope this helps!
