Question about Humidifier

Post by UGADawg » Mon Oct 22, 2007 3:10 pm

I have the Resmed Compact S8 CPAP machine and the Resmed HumidAire 3i Humidifier. I have been setting the Humidifier on setting 2 out of 5 with 5 being the highest setting. After I have my cpap on for about an hour the water is barely even warm with it being set on 4. Furthermore, there is hardly any water missing from the water chamber after being on all night (of course that is when I had the setting set to level 2 and the 4 setting was an experiment I did this afternoon). The water is nowhere close to being hot. Is this normal or do I have a lemon humidifier?

The water in most humidifiers does not get very hot. generally a max of 145 degrees. At maximum setting of 5 it should use most of the water in 8 to 9 hours. If its not doing that it needs to be sent back to the company and be checked. Your supplier should loan you a replacement while it is in for repairs. Most all the CPAP manufacturers require it to be sent in by dealer or DME and will nor except it from a patient.

That's sound advice. You might just want to run it at 4 or 5 (if you can stand it) to see the result of the water usage. I use mine on 3 and it doesn't get very hot. However, in the morning when I empty the tank, I always feel the water a bit and it's warm and the air inside is moist. I'm hot natured and haven't really felt the need to really kick in the humidification too much. I rarely use more than a quarter inch of water in an eight hour night.

I have mine set on 5 at all times. It uses the whole thing of water after about 12 hours. But the water never feels really hot either. It gets warm, but that is about it.

The water won't get extremely hot.

And the ResMed's don't use a lot of water, unless they're set very high (I usually set mine to 2 or 3 which works very well).

That being said, you might want to check out this post by Slinky from a while back: viewtopic.php?p=206816#206816 if it's humidity you're looking for, then the Fisher & Paykel HC 150 stand alone heated humidifier might be your best bet.

It would be nice to be able to speak with one of the techs at ResMed or wherever to see what kind of control ciruitry they use. Do they have a closed loop feedback circuit to control temperature? Do they just vary the amount of time the heating element is on? What wattage is the heating element? Lots of questions I could ask...

The ResMed HH seems to provide the least amount of humidity of all of the integrated HH models. The best thing to do is to avoid the integrated humidifiers altogether and just get the HC 150 ... it works with all makes and models and does so better than their integrated ones.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

The resmed H3i provides the same level as the current Respironic equivalent,

Cheers,
