pur sleep- question on duration of aroma

Post by packer » Tue Aug 21, 2007 5:33 am

I have had pursleep 5 days now- I like it!

simple question- I notice that if I wake up at 4 or 5 AM [ doesnt happen very often anymore ] that the smell has dissipated and I miss it to get back to sleep
for whatever reason the strong aroma when I first go to sleep at night seems to help a lot with quickly and easily falling asleep

so now at say 430 AM I am awake- now want to fall back asleep for couple hours- but find my sense of smell "searching" for the aroma
I dont really want to mess with trying to add one drop when I am half asleep-
so- hoping for a little help here- its not a big deal but I bet others experience same thing-- pursleep is a big help!!

how long does it last- how to refresh easily?? thanks

I find that if I lift the mask away from my face for a few breaths then reseat the mask, I smell the EO better.

I think there are a few things going on here. First, the sense of smell rather quickly adjusts to new smells; they are prominent at first but then the brain adjusts and it becomes difficult to sense the smell. Also, some recent studies have shown that the sense of smell kind of turns off in sleep, though the brain still detects the smells subconsciously. Also, a few drops of EO tend to dissipate relatively quickly in the passive diffuser. This is an instance where the original in-line diffuser (currently not available, sorry to say) is superior.

One possible solution would be to use a little more oil but place the diffuser a little further away from your cpap; the fragrance should last longer that way.

Try the Scented CPAP Mask with Pur-Sleep's CPAP Aromatherapy--CPAP Diffuser and Essential Oils.

I've seen a few comments on the cpap.com website to the effect that the aroma lasts only 20 minutes and then it's done--they can't smell it anymore. That is not my experience and I haven't seen any comments like that on the boards. I can pretty much smell at least a little bit all night. Of course I end up using quite a bit of oil despite what the directions say (what do they know about it anyway?).

Any thoughts the pur-sleep crowd could shed on this would be very much appreciated!

I notice the smell has dissipated by the morning too. I tend to use more drops than it says too but I try to be careful not to use it all up too soon. I seem to remember the directions saying it only lasts about and hour or so anyway which makes sense.

PUR-SLEEP

Post by SleepyNoMore » Tue Oct 16, 2007 9:58 pm

I used 3 or 4 drops of creme lastnight and the same thing happened to me, and lastnight was my first night ever using this product, I really like the creme as it reminds me of pure vanilla! I have a question, where am I supposed to set the difuser, I have a remstar auto, it sits on the HH and they plug in togother. Should I set it at the back of the machine or up near the humidifier tank ?

SNM, the Creme should remind you of vanilla because it is pure vanilla, tenfold. Unfortunately it's one of the oils that doesn't last that long.

My brother has a Remstar. If I remember right, the air intake (the little filter) is on the back but the electric cord might be in the way. I don't remember exactly. You might need to elevate your machine a bit (on a book or something like that that's at least as wide as the machine) in order to get the diffuser to fit under the cord.

And I have no idea who is on your Avatar (from your other thread). I'm still trying to figure out how to get one the right size to upload it here . . . .

I have found that if I put 3-4 drops on the pad before bed then the fragrance will last all night..I ran out of the clear and am now using the spice, I used the spice for the first time last night and slept like a log..I didn't hear the alarm go off at 0500 nor did I hear my husband get up and get ready for work and leave..I didn't even hear both dogs jump into bed with me..I woke up at 0730 with two dogs and the sound of silence..It is amazing stuff and I just can't sleep well without it..

I notice the same thing. Take your mask off, go potty, put mask back on, you'll get a whiff of it.

I find I can smell a whiff when I first put my mask on, even if I haven't put any fresh PurSleep out yet.

BTW, sort of tangent - I went to see my Occupational Therapist yesterday, and dragged along all my little nighttime arm splints and pads. She noticed RIGHT OFF that they all smelled SO GOOD, she was literally burying her nose in them and sniffing them!

I can only assume it was residual PurSleep vapors.

LOL,
