Run out of water, Then hot plastic smell

Post by goober » Fri Oct 12, 2007 10:31 am

I have a RemStar machine with humidifier. Sometimes if I sleep in, the humidifier runs out of water. I can always tell that it is out of water because I start smelling hot (not quite a burning smell) plastic in my mask. I assume this is coming from the now heating up plastic water tank. Is this normal? I can't imagine that hot plastic smell is good for you.

I can see how running out of water would cause the smell. I think I would take it off the roast setting and move to a lower heat that would make the water last all night. Mouthbreathing can cause the HH to use more water than it should, and cause your treatment to go out of your mouth.

If you really like mosture, the F & P 150 HH seems to be well liked. Jim

Yep ... with a FF mask in a dry place like Phoenix ... the F&P HC 150 has your name written all over it.

it is not going to melt, that hot plate only gets to about 140-F. Fill it up each night if you have to.

Higher CPAP pressure or mask leak can cause you to consume more water, I can go several nights with that same humidifier on a tank of water. I don't use the heater, I just use it in passover mode and use a heated hose to warm the incoming air.
