The Hollies also covered this. I remember that my parents used to have it on a 45 rpm single (remember those? ).

Of course! That was in 1974 and was their last major hit single, reaching No. 2 in the UK and No. 6 in the US. Meant to put them at the top of the list of covers.

We are certainly dating ourselves...

BTW the song "Creep" by Radiohead uses an identical chord structure and similar bassline and melody, and so was credited to the writers of "The Air That I Breathe".
