Bummer! Are you washing your mask each day and your face every night before bed? If so, DON'T.

And if you are, is your mask one of those you take apart and put back together? Maybe you didn't get it put back together right or misplaced a part?

On the other hand, if you DON'T wash your mask every day and face every night before bed, try that and see if THAT works.

IF none of the above work, then consider that Medicare and many insurances will replace the mask cushion every 30 days. If your mask cushion can be separated from the mask, contact your DME supplier and see if you can get a new cushion.

And that puts me out of any more brilliant ideas. Good luck!

Thanks, Sharon. I'm thinking the cause of my rotten night last night might be a "virus" or something I'm coming down with. I'm hoping and praying its not my Crohn's disease acting up!! I've been so lucky w/it but ... as the day has worn on .... I've lived w/it long enough I have a pretty good idea when it is starting to raise its ugly head. If I'm lucky, its a virus. Another day or two should tell the story.

Did my usual routine last night, same as the last two months. Other than it taking me about ten minutes to fall asleep, I had a good night. No leaks, no discomfort. Woke up about four minutes before my alarm went off with the mask still in place.

I guess my head has swollen back up to it's normal size..

As for the "machine" issue, I am getting ready to address that, as the sleep lab just sent me a follow-up survey for me to fill out. The machine I have currently is on the trial period lease. I also have a follow-up appointment with the sleep doc this month where I intend to voice my concerns.

Hi Slinky,

So sorry to hear about your rotten night! And I sure hope it's not Crohn's acting up. I have some idea of how miserable that can be as I have UC (the all-around version) and it takes immunomodulators to knock it down most of the way.

Among others, here are some of Ambien's reported side effects:
*hallucinations, abnormal behavior, or severe confusion
*vivid or abnormal dreams

Also, most drugs expire after about a year. In some cases is doesn't make much difference but in some the chemical structure could be altered.

I do take Ambien 5 nights a week so at least I can work. Have been a chronic insomniac due to trauma for many years. I actually sleep better with apap except when I have significant mask leaks.

Take care and get some sleep.

*Hugs*
Mindy

Thanks, Mindy, and ((((hugs)))) right back atchya. I'm on Imuran (aziathioprine) and have done well on it since starting it back in early 2003. (Goshes! Has it REALLY been that long??) Most of that time I've been in "symptomatic remission" (but scopes and nuclear WBC scans prove still some inflammation activity). Sure am sorry your UC is all the way around!! NOT FUN!

(And anyone should wonder why we have sleep problems?? Duh!)

Hi Slinky,

Yep, azathiprine for me, too -- for 2 years so far. It also doesn't knock it all out for me but scope shows just a little inflammation left.

And when I think about it, you're right - it is no wonder we have sleep problems! Every time I get something taken care of, it seems like something else that was there all along now becomes obvious. I hope the sleep apnea is the last thing....

Good news on the "little inflammation left". Now if we could just get rid of ALL of it!!! *sigh*

And a fervent AMEN to that one! I've encountered the same, get one thing under control and something else crops up. *sigh* Its so much fun to get old. NOT! And to think I had been really looking forward to my "golden years"!! As soon as I think I've gotten there and enjoying them .... ZAP!

hiya slinky - so sorry to hear about your rotten night. I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago - all was going well, no CPAP problems, normal sleeping patterns, and then WHAM, 1 am..2am...3am... no sleep! Even though I hadn't taken any meds, i also started getting these weird half dream half paranoic thoughts that something had happened to my little sister , in fact I was convinced... it got so bad my heart was racing something fierce and I was really really agitated, which didn't help with the trying to go to sleep!

I've had the same thing happen with Sonata - a sleep med i took on and off this past year. Normally it would work great at knocking me out, but one time the same thing happened - i was completely wide awake, started having paranoid thoughts about my sister's safetly, and no sleep....

Hopefully it will go away in one or two days!

Maybe you had too much chocolate or coffee or tea, or too much vitamin C can also keep you awake...

As for the Crohns', I can suggest drinking Aloe in the mornings (I have a similar digestive problem)... maybe you already know about it. I personally try to go the complementary medicine route whenever I can.

Wishing you sweet dreams tonight!!!

Thank you, Echo. Since up-chucking this AM I'm finally feeling much better. I'm still very dehydrated tho. And as usual no temp according to the thermomter at doctor's office. Go figure. And even odder I bled like a stuck pig after the blood draw. None of it fits. Its like a jigsaw puzzle. I never have more than a pin prick of blood, if that, after a blood draw. And crohnies on immunosuppressants have LOTS of blood draws as Mindy can attest to. Family doctor is taking a stab at Levaquin and Aciphex. My crohn's often responds well to antibiotics and the Aciphex is a shot in the dark at possible reflux. I was really sweating he was going to insist on prednisone - he knows how averse I am to taking it, bless his heart.

Maybe reflux caused the crappy sleep. We shall see. I'm just grateful that things have eased up considerably since the up-chucking!!! I suppose I'll be hearing from my gastro. *sigh*

I sure hope you're right about its being the Ambien and I get to sleep tonight!!
