remstar's ahi calculation

Post by smick » Mon Oct 01, 2007 3:24 pm

Hi everyone,

Been on a CPAP for 2 days now and have really enjoyed reading this forum. The knowledge here has been invaluable in helping me ask the right questions and get the right equipment.

I have a question based on my Respironics M-Series A-Flex data. It says my AHI was 4.0 average for the past 7 days (essentially two nights) which sounds great.

It also says 15 hours of blower/therapy time or 7.5 hours per night... is the AHI calculated from the total blower time? The reason I am asking is that I haven't slept well so far (at least 2 hours before I fell asleep both nights and some wake time in the middle of the night) and I am suspicious the real AHI when calculated off of actual sleep time might be higher. Can the M-Series somehow guess when you might be sleeping versus awake?

Thanks,
Smick

Not a chance! When the machine is running and blowing air with the smart card in place......it's "calculating". If you're awake (like watching TV) with the machine going.....it's probably going to screw up your data, too. You don't breathe the same when you're awake as when you're asleep.

If you really want to see what's up, you have to get the software and reader. The LCD info is almost useless, you need to see what happened and when it happened. That takes software. Jim
