Masks on ebay

Post by cabhoney » Thu Aug 09, 2007 9:03 pm

Get it, cpapplus? That's what showed up on my Visa bill as the seller, and also the phone number for them. This person was listed as sleepingbutee.

Can't resist taking the opportunity to mention that YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY MANUALS EVER. That Ebayer selling manuals is a COS (crock of sXXX)!!!

Here is the link to all the manuals you need online:
http://www.cpap-supply.com/Articles.asp?ID=130

And if you can't find it here, someone on this forum will probably have it, scan it, and email it to you.

Cheers,
B.
Thanks for posting that link, Babette. I realized too late that this was in fact a waste of money, but glad that it was only eight bucks. I hope your post keeps others from repeating my mistake!

CabHoney,

I know this reply is way after your original post but I just found out about sleepingbutee and searched Google to see what else I could find out. Really weird! I was looking at my own feedback and saw that sleepingbutee was listed as "No longer a registered user".

I purchased a mask from her and she was actually very nice. The delivery was late and she wrote me to ask if I had received it. When I said no she said she would send another and throw in some filters because it was late. I received the mask right after that, along with a few filters. She also said she was starting her own medical supply business. Her name was Maria, supposedly.

Her feedback up till then was perfect. I have a feeling that something bad may have happened. Either medically or otherwise. That happened to me once before - an eBay seller passed away while I was waiting impatiently for my item. After writing several times I found out on the eBay forum that the member had been taken to the hospital and never got out.

Oh well - if I find out anymore I'll post back.

When did e.bay start allowing CPAP masks to be sold? Last time I checked, it was against their policy to let people sell the masks. You could sell everything else, but they didn't allow masks. I'll have to check into this...

Yep, CPAP devices are listed as prohibited in their rules:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/med ... vices.html

Look under "some examples."

If you do a search on e-bay using just the mask name, you will find some mask auctions.

They only just this summer prohibited mask sales. This thread pre-dates that prohibition. Someone resurrected it.

BTW, bear in mind that people on this forum have died, too. I know of one mask sale on this forum that was paid for, and the mask never arrived, and after repeated emails and snail mails we've never heard back from that person. General feeling is that the person passed away. She is greatly missed.

Cheers,
Barbara

Barbara:

I don't know that's what happened - just speculating. As I said, she wrote back to me four or five times, asked about the delivery, asked if the mask arrived OK, offered me some free filters for the delay, etc. Just didn't seem like someone who was out to take people.

You never really know, but I did not get the impression that she was working for a major supplier.

(Then again, maybe she was -- and was selling their merchandise? Maybe she's in prison - who knows!)

One other thing: I usually purchase my masks at Cpap.com, but I was on eBay for another reason and noticed some masks for sale, so I placed bids - figured if I could get a few that way I'd be ahead. (I purchase all my own CPAP supplies).

Guess who was the main competition on every single mask auction I found? (And is still out there buying the ebay masks like hotcakes!)

"cpaponline", who used to be called "cpap-pro.net" before that, and "cpap-pro" before that. Guess who??

I'll second this...

I just posted a brand new Comfortcurve mask on there (doesn't work for side sleeping with my face), and see that there are several other masks that I wouldn't mind trying out.

Has anyone bought a mask from the auction site yet? How'd it work out?

I bought one 09/08 and paid promptly. The seller acknowledged receipt of payment and said it had been mailed 09/24 from a nearby state. I asked for a tracking number or mailing verification. Got nothing. I bought another item on the auction and as it turns out it is from the same seller. Asked for address to mail payment. Got nothing. I still don't have the mask and doubt I will receive it after all this time. And certainly won't try to pay for the second item.

I bought another mask from another seller and paid with PAPAL. Received the mask promptly and the mask was exactly as represented. Very pleased with that transaction. This seller now has a very high satisfaction rating. So factor seller ratings into your decision to bid.

YMMV

I've bought two masks. One of them is a backup for my NA II and the other is one I've wanted to try. Very reasonable prices, both under $50 for brand new masks.

One arrived so quickly, I suspect the guy dropped it on my doorstep himself . I did have a delay in shipping with the other, but the guy added in a bunch of free pillows to make up for the delay.

I don't think the new one is going to work, but since I have a bunch of friends and family members who are due to get hosed, I'm saving any masks that don't work for me so they can trial others. At the rate I'm going, I'll have a better mask fitting facility than the DME's locally. . Plus, I know about all the mask modifications, which the DME's don't.
