I'd like to thank all of you for your responses. I was nearly positive I was going to buy an APAP and now I am 100% sure I will... where was this website when I first got my CPAP
Doctor says APAP machines are a waste...

Really - is s/he some sort of quack?

With APAP you cut the docs & DME's profits. Have you had to go back to have your pressure adjusted?
...
And oh, just how DID you get a prescription without a sleep study?
Back when I went to this doctor he was one of the experts in my area (Tulsa, OK). The CPAP does work fine for me in most cases except I work alot and when I am really low on sleep I can sleep alot deeper... those are the nights when I need the big boost.
Don't knock Doc's for trying to gain "Profits" remember the concept of Profits are too often not paired with Losses. I have no problem at all with doctors or anybody in medicine trying to make money from time invested... we wouldn't have APAP's to smile about if there wasn't money in it. Sadly with the state of Insurance and what people expect it to pay for there is very little competition in the Medical Markets. The fact that so many choose to bypass insurance if need be to pickup new machines is quite facinating and telling about how much these machines can change your life.
And I did get a sleep study some many years ago... but I have avoided going back for another to get my machine adjusted.
