Ok you all have convinced me....
I'm getting the Pur-Sleep starter pack. Everyone is raving about these so I'm going to try it. the basic one with the diffuser, pads, and One 5ml bottle each of Clear™, Spice™, and Peace™. We'll see how this works! Should be interesting.
Re: Ok you all have convinced me....
How could you possible exist with just three oils I look forward to my buffet of oils and choose according to my whim each night. Lately I've been into Deep and have had the most hours of sleep and lowest AHIs so far on it.lilsheba wrote:I'm getting the Pur-Sleep starter pack. Sleep is so precious, that I have thought about not using anything else again but Deep for fear I might get a less fabulous sleep. But no, I couldn't do without the occasional Fresh and Creme for a creamcicle night, or Comfort, or . . .
Hope it works as well for you as it has for me!

Sharon, do you have a Clear that really smells pepperminty? You may be one of those who can't tolerate peppermint for sleep. Trade it to someone who prefers "original" Clear.
I had to trade off my "original" Clear and really prefer New Clear, aka Clear II. In fact, I've been sleeping with just Clear the past few nights - not even mixing it with anything. Getting good sleep, though I do admit the dreams have been rather erotic.
LOL,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Here's a tip
Since I didn't want to spend any cash for scents I didn't like I chose to do something else.
I went to Walmart and bought a cheap ceramic soap dish ($1.99). I then bought cotton makeup removal pads which are small, thin, circular cotton pads. I first went to GNC to buy some essential oils. Since I knew absolutley nothing about the oils I chose them based on their appealing scent. I bought orange citrus and lavender tea tree. Since they didn't have any samples to smell I just brought them home.
I take 2 pads place them in the soap dish and add a few drops of the oils and then place the dish behind the CPAP machine near the air intake. It worked great except the lavender tea smelled like death. The orange was nice and I've since bought lemon and lime. I bought the pads, dish and 2 oils for $9.79 and it works great.
I change the scent each night so I never get used to the fragrance. I seem to gravitate towards citrus for some reason and although I don't get to sleep quick do to my insomnia I enjoy those scents instead of the "plastic" whiff that I normally got.
Since I was skeptical of the Pur Sleep stuff I chose this as an alternative.

My favorite two scents are Fresh and Clear, and I think what I have is Clear II. I want to try Creme, don't remember what Deep is I'd have to look it up.
I've been using Fresh every night for a while now, I should probably change off for a bit just so I don't get too used to the smell. But it smells so good!

Lavender Tea Tree is NOT a scent I would recommend. Tea Tree is an industrial solvent-smelling oil. It is usually used TOPICALLY, not as an AROMATHERAPY. It's use is antibacterial. Has NOTHING to do with pleasant smells.
Toss it, and get some straight lavendar. You'd do better to just use EO's that are labeled for Aromatherapy.
Try the Aura Cacia line, found in most health food stores. I recommend their "Mellow Mix" which is a lavendar-based mixture. I've been using it as an alternative to PurSleep, and in a diffuser in my office.
Cheers,
Barbara

Deep is lime and basil. I love it but wouldn't if I smelled too much lime. It seems to have a really nice balance.lilsheba wrote:My favorite two scents are Fresh and Clear, and I think what I have is Clear II. I want to try Creme, don't remember what Deep is I'd have to look it up.

Sweet. I like the smell of lime they use in some of these, or any of the citrus scents. I do plan to have more of a collection at some point but I'm pretty happy with the 3 I got. I have Fresh, Clear and Peace. Yum.gasp wrote:Deep is lime and basil. I love it but wouldn't if I smelled too much lime. I haven't noticed my cat acting any different. She's laying across my arms as I am typing right now. If anything, she seems to want to be in the house more. Although I doubt that has anything to do with the Pur-Sleep, probably just that it's raining. Anyhow, the few drops that I use don't really cause the scent to fill the bedroom and the cat hasn't been sniffing the diffuser pad.Jirel wrote:Darn it! I really liked the purr sleep, but I'm worried about the idea of the essential oils harming cats.

I love my pur-sleep, and I also love my cats. I have asked my vet if it is true that cats cannot metabolize the essential oil in their livers and are therefore at risk. She told me the essential oils can contain phenol (especially oils that are not pure essential oils and some that are pure contain it naturally) A cat's liver cannot metabolize the oils and they can reach a toxic level. Bottom line - you can put your cat at risk, especially if they sleep up on your pillow with you like mine can tend to do. Mine also like to sniff and paw at the airstream coming out of the mask.
My compromise - on the nights I use my pursleep, I shut my bedroom door and make the cats sleep in another room. This is usually on a night that I need a really good sleep and am getting to bed later than I should be anyway.
On the weekends when I can sleep in longer in the mornings, I let the cats in my room and don't use my pursleep.
GertbeatFroeb, Babette is right, the tea tree is NOT an aromatherapy oil, but it is a fabulous oil for other purposes. It is from the Melaleuca tree, and they are pretty stinky trees. Instead of tossing the lavender tea tree, consider putting a few drops in some foot lotion or in your shampoo. Tea Tree is a good antiseptic and antifungal oil.
I too would caution anyone from choosing an oil just because it smells nice. Make sure it is pure and you are not inhaling artificial chemicals into your lungs for 5-7 hours a night. Sleepguy put a lot of research into choosing his oils for good reason!
You would be safe with a good quality straight lavender oil.

Wow! That IS interesting! Sophie doesn't sleep between our pillows anymore. We have the darn puppy with us right now. The cat does sometimes sneak in once the pup's asleep and she'll sleep by our feet. (Like maybe one or two nights a week.) We keep the ceiling fan on and the windows open when it is cool out, so hopefully she's safe.Anonymous wrote:I love my pur-sleep, and I also love my cats.
