Has anyone tried the ultra mirage II nasal mask? How is the comfort level. I'm using the fischer & paykel flexifit 406 and I have to get it so tight to avoid leaks. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

The UltraMirageII (and the UltraMirage before it) have been long time favorites. They redesigned the forehead support and changed the exhaust port, it is a bit on the noisy side compared to the Soyala.

The UMII is small and light (compared to big and heavy in the Activa). Sealing ability is avg.

I prefer the Soyala Nasal over the UMII. It is smaller, lighter, seals better and is silent by comparison. It is critical that you get the Soyala sized correctly, too small and it can put too much pressure on the nose. Soyala runs a tad on the small side compared to other masks such as the UMII, ComfortGel, etc.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Click on the large Yellow Lightbulb at the top of the page (Collective Wisdom), scroll down to Mask Fitting. There are some great tips there that I learned from my Sleep Lab Manager who REALLY knows how to fit a mask plus some minor tips that I discovered on my own.

Too often, as newbies we try to tighten our masks too tight to avoid or eliminate leaks. The mask NEEDS to be filled w/air, squishing it tighter and tighter to our face totally thwarts that need.

Color me red-faced. Maybe it was posted as a sticky at the apenasupport.com forum. Someone had asked me to post it as a sticky and since I didn't know how I told her she could post it for me since she knew how. I found it a couple of times but haven't looked in quite awhile. I'll send you a PM copied from a PM to someone else as I'm sure I'm beginning to leave a thing or two out as I get tired of retyping the info so many times.

Duh!!! Try clicking on the Red Ball at the top of the page w/a Question Mark in it. THEN scroll down to "Mask Fitting". It was posted there 8/10/07. Sorry about the bum directions to the Yellow Lightbulb. Altho, you gotta admit there's some darn good info under that old Yellow Lightbulb!!!

RestedGal never forgets where the goodies are stashed and she knows how to find them fast. *sigh* RestedGal, I "ain't" - obviously.
