People with Ultra Mirage need your input

Post by tarainfo » Fri Sep 21, 2007 9:35 pm

Curreently have optilife mask and m series aflex which I operare beween 7.5 and 10 (auto) most of the time

Encore reports look ok but although for short naps it seems ok

for long sleep dont feel getting enough air . Wake up all groggy Have problems with memory during day

So as result don't use it every night as I should

Thinking to get full face mask as my nostrils often congested

Any comments from ultra mirage owners on how satisfied they are with their mask

Thank you for any comments

depends on the A-Flex setting you are using, but you may need to bump up the Auto:Min to 8.0 cm and I would also increase the Auto:Max=15 cm.

Some people find they need to increase pressure by 1 cm going from a nasal interface to a Full Face like with the UltraMirage.

You don't want the machine to be limited if it needs to go higher than 10. I know at 8.5cm on mine I can feel like I'm starving for air.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

I really like my Ultra Mirage, it seals well for me and the quick release head gear is nice in that it stays in adjustment. There is an adjustment to better fit different noses. I'm also a side to side sleeper, and the UMFF lets me get away with my nightly travels. I've no problems with the connector leaking. The exhaust is diverted straight up and doesn't hit my wife. I like being able to breath through my mouth anytime I want to do so.

The UMFF is a great mask, and requests such as yours seem to come up more often than ever. I would suggest doing a search here at this forum and you should find quite a lot of opinions on this mask.
Just search for "Ultra Mirage" or "UMFF"

I was an UMFF user for about a year...need a full face mask and it was the best I'd found until the Quattro came out. For me, the Quattro has proven to be better so now would rank the UMFF second in line to it.

Am a restless sleeper and frequently sleep on my side. Had problems with the UMMF breaking the seal when I did so.

The Quattro largely solved this problem by narrowing the forehead support to help maintain the seal with side sleeping, increasing the seal at the nose, and greatly increasing the adjustment at the nose.

Not a condemnation of the UMMF by any means. May still remain the better choice for you. However, if you're thinking of a ResMed FF mask, don't rule out the Quattro. Since its relatively new, it hasn't as yet had the press of the UMFF.

i tried the ultra mirage but could not get used to it, ive actually never been able to fall asleep with it ,2 big problems for me were airleaks around the nose and no matter how tight i made it the mask always felt like it was lifting off my face as i breathed in and out.

My UMFF and I have had a wonderful 2 year long relationship now. I'm on my second one and feel great!

I've got a post or 2 on how to adjust it. Realize that once it's adjusted, it takes almost no additional adjustments nightly. I just unhook the lower left clip, slip it on/off, and am ready to go. I've found that wiping the seal and my face with a baby-wipe (alcohol free) just before slipping it on helps the seal a whole bunch. Another secret....don't strap it on too tight. I leave the upper straps fairly loose, adjust the forehead piece with the swivel and then have the lower straps just barely tight. Also, adjust it at a fairly high pressure while you're laying in your favorite sleeping position! This is very important to get the right fit and seal. Also, I don't have any problem with rainout as long as I run my humidifier at about medium.

Good luck!

Kajun

I use an Ultra Mirage mask and it works well for me. My pressure is set between 18 and 20 so I always get a lot of air. I have never used A Flex but I think it can reduce the pressure some while inhaling. If you are at 7.5 and it drops further you may not have sufficient airflow. The airflow at different pressures is in the documentation that came with the mask. People with low airflow sometimes complain of headaches on this forum. Maby bumping up your pressure some and maby reducing your a flex setting could help. You could also try a mask with higher airflow in your pressure range.
