Hello Skits -- Welcome.
I replied to your other post in the other thread no knowing you had already done what I suggested.....do a new thread and let us know what's up.
You are in good company here. You definitly found the right place for information. Click on the Yellow Light bulb "Our Collective Wisdom" and just start perusing through there. You'll very soon be in info overload. I was. Fortunately I found this site shortly after I was diagnosed, so by the time I had my titration and prescription I knew what I wanted, how I was going to deal with it etc.....
I for one, was happy to start the treatment -- I am so tired of being tired. So far it's been going pretty well. I didn't get here overnight, so I don't expect to be "cured" overnight -- I don't expect miracles.
Once you get your machine and mask, just keep at it. You'll have some frustrating times and you'll have times that will make you do the happy dance...just hang in there.
Take care and Good Luck!!!!!!
cheers

Wars arise from a failure to understand one another's humanness. Instead of summit meetings, why not have families meet for a picnic and get to know each other while the children play together?

For what it's worth, what helped me was the 7 phases of CPAP in the collective wisdom. I read it after I had been through most of the phases so it was more reassurance than forewarning. I think everyone that stays with the therapy does a trade-off between the benefit versus the hassle. For me, the improvement in memory did it. My wife said, "I sure wish I could find that happy place you seem to have found" I really had not noticed how much my outlook on life had improved. Moral is; make sure you listen to feedback from loved ones. BTW, my wife goes in for her sleep study next month. Is it fun to adjust, no. If you remember that it is just some air blowing on your face, it helps too. Once I just imagined that I was sticking my head out the window of the car on a nice day. Fell right asleep. Good luck and don't forget to post when you need to "talk".

Welcome!!!!!
I'm five months in and this is working wonderfully for me, mainly thanks to this site. It's the best!
The thing that helped me at the begining was to make sure to get a FULLY data capable machine. There are only and handful and the DME's will try and give you a compliance only data machine. Don't let them do it. Maybe you've already heard about this.
A full face mask didn't work for me (due to facial pain), so it's good to hear that it works for you. That's a great advantage.

Thanks for the pep talks! I get it Oct. 1st. (I'm on vacation starting tomorrow until the first.) I will ask for the data one. I guess the way this is going to work is my insurance company rents the machine for however many months (I pay some) and then it's mine (rent to buy....I'll never understand insurance companies. My husband once had to have crutches and they paid something like $50 a month for six months....I think they could have bought them for much less and just given them to him -- many years ago.)
I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure and broke down and started the water pill. Haven't checked the BP yet, but I feel better. I'm determined with the APAP (that's what the doc ordered) and a little bit of a life change (haha) I will get off that damned water pill. I was up five times last night just for that!
I'll be gone until Sunday. Will check in then. Again, thanks for being there. Thank God I found this site!

Hey Skits,
Funny you should mention the BP..........
I had my quarterly follow-up with the doc this past week and because my BP is getting so well controlled since starting on xPAP, the possibility is that in the next 6 months, if it maintains it's present level (116/64 from 128/72), I'll be able to drop the two most toxic BP meds I've been on for the past 5-6 years....
Next on the list is the diabetes!!!
But just wanted to let you know -- it works, and getting off the meds can happen!!!!!
Good luck!!!! take care
cheers

Re: Scared to death and want to cry.
[quote="skits"]Two nights ago I did my second sleep study using a cpap mask. I found the whole face (whatever it's called) worked the best for me. It's bulky, but I didn't get the panic attack I got with just the nose mask (when I opened my mouth).
I love this site. It's helped in just the hour I've been searching through it. I am holding back tears. My anxiety is at an all time high. I'm hoping it won't take too long to get my machine. I'm looking for a newbie to walk down the path together and compare notes (and fears). Anyone out there that's in my learning curve?

xPAP and Quattro std mask (plus a pad-a-cheek anti-leak strap)
