I have just started using a CPAP machine. I have finished two weeks and I am doing better, but it is still quite overwhelming to me. Some nights I do better then others. My rate is 80 times per hour that i stopped breathing.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate hearing them. This is the first support group that I felt I needed to sign up for.
I teach in Virginia. I have college age children (2). I seem to have more energy in the afternoon, but I still have a difficult time accepting this.
So if anyone wants to respond, please feel free.
CPAP new user and trying to accept this nightly ritual.
Hiya Onemorething,
Welcome to the board.
You touch on a very good word, Acceptance. That may be the most difficult hurdle to cross.
In time you will forget you are putting it on.
One of the best ways to think of this is how well you will be feeling. It takes time to really lose the daytmie sleepiness and get your body healed of all the turmoil it has seen, but once you hit your stride, you will grow to love your machine. I know it sounds odd, but it is true.
I have a friend that was diagnosed before me, and he doesn't think about apnea or the machine at all. He just puts on the mask every night and treats it as brushing his teeth before bed.
I know I think about it more than he does, but I am close to just putting on the mask and falling off.
It seems like it took me a year to really start to feel like I was completely rested and my old self again.
Please keep us up to date on your journey,
Regards,
Titrator

"One More Thing", if you're still watching.....
Keep on checking in on this website, there are so many here who can help. Be sure to post to the Sleep and Sleep apnea part of the forum, for better chances of feedback.
I know I've learned lots from everyone, especially including Titrator here!
Good luck.
Linda

Automatic????
It is getting better, but now I guess I will ask for a warm humidifier. I get tangled in the hose at times. Usually, I get in bed and put it on top of me and then add the blankets. That works ok, unless I try and turn on my side. I stopped breathing 80 times and hour. My insurance covers it all. Amazing!
Does anyone actually sleep on their side with the mask? I have a friend at school and she uses something like a O2 tube and the hose is under her chin. She sleeps on her side.
I have never gotten in a support group, but I must say this helps. I am in agreement with the person who said he feels like a Jet Pilot.! I prop myself up some so I don't have it weighted down on my face.
Thanks for listening.

Jet-fighter pilot would like to let you know that I do sleep on my right side with the mask.
Going through my second week of adapting to the new ritual and last night I took it off in my sleep!!!!
My subconceous is not easy to trick at all. Still can not use the snooze button in my alarm. Subconceous turns the alarm completely off.
Last night subconceous felt like he had enough with the mask!!!!!!!
I would like to let you all know that I do already feel much difference already.
No more sleepy and yawning all day
