Aura died...stay with it or is there something better?

Post by rock and roll » Fri Sep 14, 2007 8:47 am

My beloved Aura died last night, the strap broke off right at the head box. I am so sad as this has been my interface of choice for a while now and I had everything adjusted perfect! But with a resounding pop when I turned over it fell to the side.

I was just about to order another one when I realized I had been so happy with it that I have failed to keep up with anything newer the last year as I have had many distracting life events. So, before I order it, I thought I would ask the collective wisdom of this group if there is an interface that had taken everybody by storm like this Aura did when it came out.

I was just going to suggest the same, when I remembered this:

posting.php?mode=quote&p=37911

[quote="rock and roll"]I've been contemplating the Aura, to try, and will be interested in how sleepless does especially after using my two favorite interfaces, the Swift and the Activa. But I travel a lot and sometimes share a hotel room and I get enough flack about my cpap with out resorting to pantyhose straps

Lori, if it can be used out of the box and is better/as good as the others, I may be tempted. But I don't have RG's love of cutting them up and experimenting. Especially when pantyhose and panty liners are involved

i switch between the Bravo (love the pillows) and the Hybrid (also love the pillows) because I need very soft pillows that do not push against my nose like the Swift. Both these masks are fantastic for sore noses.

Good memory OZIJ!

I am not a tinkerer like some, I admit. A lot of this has to do with the fact I have Rh Arthritis and doing things with my hands is an adventure at best. I may get my wife to be the hands and play some but am still wondering if any great new interface has stormed the list.

Any thoughts of the HC481 infinity or the Optilife Nasal System?

I hated the Optilife. I really prefer over the head hose management.

I recommend the NAII. It's got the lower facial footprint you'll like, and it's much more customizable than the Aura, and you can READ or watch TV while wearing it.

It's also cheaper at most vendors.

I recommend ordering the one with all sizes that's for sale at Direct Home Medical - that way you don't have to worry about what size to buy.

Buy all Sizes at once for only $9 more than just the three size kit

So, what do you use for pantyhose, painterman? Pantyhose?

I decapitated my Aura about 2 months ago - and love it.

I use black stretchy panty hose. I sewed the two loops so I don't have to tie them. I also sewed velcro on the top forehead loop and got sticky velcro for the top area of the twilight so that the top loop is always attached and also helps to keep it from slipping around. I even put velcro on the pad so that it also sticks to the same stick on velcro that goes around the clear part of the aura/twilight. So the end result is the top loop and the pad are both velcroed to the twilight. It is alot easier to get on this way.

By the way the black panty hose doesn't really look like panty hose. It looks like black straps, not like nylons wrapped around my head!!!!

The infinity killed my nose. It felt like a medievel torture device.
