Nessum Dorma

Post by Organplayer » Fri Sep 07, 2007 8:36 am

My wife, listening to Pavarotti yesterday, said" I have a new theme song for you apnea sufferers". I queried her.

She said, "nessum Dorma".

Funny

The Italian and the translation:

Nessun dorma, nessun dorma ...
Tu pure, o Principessa,
Nella tua fredda stanza,
Guardi le stelle
Che tremano d'amore
E di speranza.

No one sleeps, no one sleeps...
Even you, o Princess,
In your cold room,
Watch the stars,
That tremble with love
And with hope.
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me,
Il nome mio nessun saprà, no, no,
Sulla tua bocca lo dirò
Quando la luce splenderà,
Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio
Che ti fa mia.

But my secret is hidden within me;
My name no one shall know, no, no,
On your mouth I will speak it*
When the light shines,
And my kiss will dissolve the silence
That makes you mine.

Kevin (who once played for Pavarotti and has never forgotten it)

Kevin,

That's amazing that you were able to play for him. Did you accompany him in his singing or actually perfrom for him? Not that it matters much one way or the other; that is truly a remarkable memory.

Totally OT, but have you seen the video of Paul Potts, the British cellular salesman, from Britain's Got Talent (better, classier UK version of American Idol)? He perfroms Nessun Dorma and it will give you have goose bumps!

Needless to say, he won the competition:

I got to accompany him.
Large man in terms of personality. Scared the stew out of me at the time.
(I was 19 at the time).

Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

Wow. I got goose bumps just reading your post that you accompanied Pavarotti. That must be a cherished memory (and you must be a very accomplished musician).

I'm not much of an opera fan, but a good tenor voice just melts me.

Kevin, it's awesome that you got to accompany him. What a treasure he was.

Thanks for posting the Paul Potts video, VanDexter. I watched a bunch of them and cried every time. Amazing story.

Well, I have to say that you have accomplished things that are close to my heart. I love music although I am just a listener. You must be quite accomplished.
