I have low testosterone that is probably not related to OSA. I also have a lot of trouble with taking enough to alleviate the symptoms of hypogonadism without causing me an enormous amount of grief with various types of bone, joint, nerve and muscle pain.
Because of a sharp increase in the pain issues, I went off testosterone for a while after starting CPAP therapy, and the pain went away, but my levels didn't rebound very well. I just couldn't stand to wait it out to see what would happen in the long run, so I have resumed the testosterone therapy.
My doctor told me that the research shows that the sequence of events that leads to increased testosterone happens in NREM deep sleep, and that since my apnea is much worse in REM sleep, it doesn't surprise him that my levels didn't rebound all that well.
