American Sleep Association info on CPAP

Post by James Hoffman » Mon Sep 03, 2007 7:42 am

As a long-time CPAP user, I was pleased to find an association that was free for sleep apnea patients.
The American Sleep Association has a ton of info on sleep apnea and CPAP treatment.

I think that the best tool for sleep apnea patients like us is information. The more we know, the more likely we are going to feel comfortable with treatment...the more likely we are going to use treatment.

Looks pretty lonely over there.....I think I'll stay here. Besides.....you have to register to post there. I noticed that YOU didn't have to register to post HERE.

Why don't you just send everybody over here.....then you won't have to bother with another restrictive forum like the ASAA's and TAS.
I'll bet that if I posted something like you just did on THAT site, the post would be removed.

I've tried several forums and this one by far is the best! Everyone is much nicer here and more willing to reply to others' posts, offer a warm eelcome, and words of encouragment. I've found that to be the case even when it's a question that has an obvious answer somethere else on the forum. People take the time to help others here!

I agree w/Wulfman, I see no reason to be tooting their horn over here, you like them so much go camp out on their forum.

If it was up to them they would prefer to see this forum go by the wayside or be shut down, all you have to do is read some of the Admin posts over there to see that. But when its 11PM Friday night and you are having problems with your CPAP go see how much help you get over there.

And its not like this forum gets a "donation" card included in every CPAP owners manual that gets shipped either.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Den,

I thought surely you were exaggerating. So I registered at that site. To register you have to give them your name, address and email address. I wasn't too keen on that as I don't want to receive junk mail or solicitations, but I was committed to my experiment.

Then I did a post about sleep apnea forums. I mentioned cpapchatters.com, cpaptalk.com and the americansleepassociation.org site. I briefly stated some observations about each and did not say anything negative about the American Sleep Association site other than it did not work well with my Firefox browser and that I had to switch to my Safari browser. There was nothing provacative in my post.

I checked back a short while ago and my post is GONE!!! I did a search on my username and it shows no posts.

All I can say is cpaptalk.com RULES!

Thought I was kiddin'?
Before I posted this, I went to their site and, out of curiosity, clicked on the registration thingy and saw what they wanted for information......and I backed out.....not that I would have registered anyway.
I'm not about to put my personal information on any other site or be susceptible to more junk e-mail than I already get.
That place didn't look "user friendly".
This site is the ONLY forum I've ever registered on.

Yep.....this forum is THE VERY BEST!

Hug, hug, kiss, kiss!!!!!!!!! I love this forum and all of you!! This forum has changed my life. I did see those other fora first, and tried to get some help. Not very helpful. This one is ever helpful to me.

I had a friend who called me from out of town because his cpap was not working right. I posted and got replies within a few minutes. We were able to troubleshoot and he only spent one night with the problem. This despite the fact that he was not online at all, I couldn't phone him. I sent him an email via the place he was staying. They printed it out.

I think that lives have been saved with the information on this forum.

I ADORE THIS FORUM AND THE PEOPLE ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CPAP.COM IS THE BEST FOR HOSTING IT, TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the only forum for cpap related things I'm on, and it's the only I feel necessary to be on. This place has great people, some of whom have a twisted sense of humor (which I like), and I feel like we've all been through the same stuff. We use the same medical supplies (including nasal rinses like MedNeil), a lot of of us use the same kind of masks and machines, a lot of us have had similar surgeries, and share experiences.

I will never go anywhere else. Besides I wouldn't have the time to keep up on another fourm you all chatter enough here LOL

I would agree. I looked over there, but did not see a whole lot of anything new.
But they did have t-shirts, so I say it is time to get shirts over here. Where are those designs?

We need them.

It doesn’t seem to be very active there. Any way, this is my first impression.

I have facial hair and couldn't get a Liberty to seal. My leaks were so bad that the recorded pressure during the night was 0.8 where it should have been 8.0.

I haven't been to the forum that the guy starting this thread was advertising, but I follow both this one and the ASAA forums daily. I don't see a reason to bad mouth one vs. the other like it is some sort of competition. I mean, I see people on these forums bash the ASAA forums and vice versa on a regular basis, and I don't really get it. Why do people feel like they have to justify where they choose to spend their time by ripping something else? Personally I like that the communities have a different feel and flow to them, and there are things about this forum that I like and don't like and things about the ASAA forums that I like and don't like.

Based on personal preferences you may prefer one site over another, but at the end of the day the goal of each is the same in trying to offer help and support for people with their sleep apnea.
