Let me ask you this, Bill... if you had to place a bet on one single supplier as being the main moving force in convincing eBay to stop accepting mask auctions, which one supplier would you put your money on?

Well, Respironics offers more mask selections than Resmed .... and Respironics just started applying pressure on the online DMEs to quit selling their software to patients ....

There's, ummm, that little matter of "create prescription" found in the software, ya know. I don't think masks can write to the Smart Card yet.

My logic points me to ResMed that's behind it.

They were apparently behind the initial initiative to get medical devices pulled from Ebay a couple of years ago.

They were the one who came up with the minimum pricing policies for the Internet sellers.....and also the first to pull their software from that market in the U.S.

They generally have the most expensive masks. (How dare anyone sell them any cheaper!)

They had the big recall on their flow generators. (another "image" problem)

At this moment, their stock price (RMD) is over $7 lower than Respironics' (RESP). (it's interesting to look at the 2-year charts for both companies)

They're more concerned with "image" than helping the people who actually use their products.

I'm not letting Respironics off the hook with regard to their recent restriction on software, but I don't think they're behind the Ebay thing......mainly because many of their masks aren't that great, anyway......and they should be glad there are some suckers out there that will buy them......especially the ones with the word "Comfort" in them.

You have to give Respironics' credit though, they are trying desperately to be as bad. The rollout of the "M"agic, with lost data days, and the leaky sub-standard HH, and then to pull the software their patients need for successful treatment. I think they all pull their management out of the bottom of the same gene pool, the end where the slime collects.

Respironics, better take a look at their feet, so they can see if they have any bullet holes in them. Jim

So much for brains????

As for the vendor argument.....It's all about dollars folks. Follow the dollars and you'll find the pressure points......The only ones that really lose out in the internet or ebay sales are the DME's -- so that should point to where the pressure is really coming from.....

Like I said in my other post -- there's not a dimes worth of difference between any of them.
Goof's got it nailed -- slime at the bottom of the barrel......and the DME's are in cahoots because they get to rape the insurance companies with impunity......

It's definitely a vulture!!!!!

The biggest problem WE collectively have is that we can't really do what's necessary to get their attention. We need their stuff for our own health and survival - we're more or less a captive audience (customer base).
We could pick one and just refuse to support them in any way shape or form, but which one ya going to choose??

I think that brings me to 4 cents......

For those of us that have good insurance we can still get our 2-4 new masks a year and those have to come from the DME, HOWEVER once we realize the masks doesn't fit or doesn't work for us, we can still trade or sell reasonably here and keep some of our hard earned money out of their hands. The truth is that if the DME'S were knowledgeable and cared they would work to FIT us into a mask that WORKS for us and they wouldn't have people jumping ship in the first place.

I'm getting an Aura out of pocket from a local supplier. Yee ha. Be in tomorrow (I hope).....

But you remind me -- I need to call the DME to let them know I haven't forgotten they're dragging their feet on the Hans Rudolph I asked for, but I also need to get my 3 month re-supply -- HH tank, Hose, filters along with the new maskie....

I may settle for a PB 431 and get the Hans Rudolph out of pocket. We'll see how things go with them....Trying to get that "thing" off my forehead!!!
