Cold & sinus infection and using my mask

Post by Guest » Thu Aug 23, 2007 1:47 pm

I am feeling just miserable. I have a cold and sinus infection and I cant sleep with the nose mask because I am choking because I cant breath. I take the mask off and I am constantly waking myself up with the snoring. I am so drained. This has been going on for a week. Any suggestions?

When I have this type of problem I switch to my backup mask, which is a full face mask.

will that work?

Will the full face mask work when you cant breath through your mouth? Which mask is suggested? Thank you!

If a Full Face mask is fitted correctly, you should be able to breathe through either your nose or your mouth.

Any suggestions on which one to use? I have a comfort mask and a pillow right now and I just bought another mask. (Nose). I dont want to spend to much because my insurance never covered machine or masks just my sleep studies. Thank you.

are you dealing online or with a local dme?

some local dme's are good at fitting masks (not all of them... but some are). would be good to actually get one fitted.

otherwise... use the fitting thing on cpap.com... get somebody to help you with your measurements.

only one that i can tell you is tricky to fit is the 432... the foam insert makes it smaller... it doesn't fit like the umff or the 431... it fits smaller so you need a larger size. personally mine closes off my nose so i end up wearing it without the foam insert.

I will purchase it online. I was looking at them and I am wondering if I will adjust to wearing a full face mask. I might feel like I will sufficate.

i also have a chronic sinus condition and my doc said to only use full face masks. i also snore like a bear but with the full facer on i dont make a peep. i just cant see how any doc would prescribe a nasal mask for a patient with a sinus condition.

oh and it also helped me to NOT use the humidifier when my sinuses are acting up

Thank you greeneye. My doctor just said she knows nothing about cpap machines and masks. I am just happy I found this web site.
