Wow i was right. DME wrong.

Post by john44077 » Fri Aug 17, 2007 1:02 pm

For the last week or so i have been using a auto cpap. Thursday (ok its been a bad week maybe it was Wed) the dme came and got my data card. I told the RT that i had been looking at my numbers in the clinical menu (Gasp! Bad bad John your not supposed to know how to access that) and that they didnt look right. He gave me this speach about me not understanding of the #'s. They called a few hrs ago and left a voicemail to call them back. That i was right. That 13cm wasnt what i needed. I needed 15cm. I wounder if they will send the data card back to me or what there plans are. The V Mail said they need to come out to change my settings. Sould i wait for them next week or do it myself? Hope everyone has a good week en.d

Good for you, John! Hope you get your card back!

Have a good weekend yourself. Cleveland's supposed to have beautiful weather this weekend.

Thanks Cathy. I am not going to get to enjoy it much. We are moving in 3 weeks (my first house! darn morgage loan mess is driving us crazy) so we got to spend it packing while we have no kids home.

In my opinion, waiting for the DME to change your pressure is kinda like the doctor telling you to up your dosage of a med you're on, and waiting for the pharmacist to switch the pill strength.

If you know how much to take, take it.

It's your therapy -- control it.

The Force? Duct Tape is the Force. It has a light side & a dark side & holds the whole damn univers together!

I hope our "Guest" critic (the one with the multiple-personality disorder) reads this thread, too. DMEs and doctors screw up, too.

As Jefe said (and I have many times).....it's YOUR therapy.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and change the pressure myself (it worked for ME).

I loved the look on my sleep doctors face when I told him that I had changed my pressure to about half of what he prescribed.....he hardly knew what to say. (expecially after I showed him my reports)

Like others have said, it is your therapy. If it were me, I would give them to the end of the day, and then make the change myself. You can always change it back it you don't like it.
I do so love to breath!

John,
I could't agree more with the others posting to your thread. It is YOUR LIFE in the balance, not just your therapy and whatever comfort(s) you can receive from it.

Avoiding further complications caused or exacerbated by sleep disorders is the prime point. If you have to step ahead of the med-pros to achieve that for yourself, then so be it. It is not their misery repeatedly dangling from clipboards in medical offices.

As with anything involving health, just be prudent and careful in making changes.

For me: Had I not joined this board, found a massive collection of wisdom, experience and solid answers, and taken the front role in monitoring and proactively achieveing some success in my therapy, I probably would have kept deteriorating until I expired prematurely at some point.

Take wise steps, small steps... and good luck in making them.
