Can anyone help me make sense of these?
he sleep study I had Tuesday night said I had no apneas or hyponeas. Can anyone help me figure out what the rest of these numbers mean?
Sleep Summary:
Total recording time: 448.6 min
Total sleep time: 355.0 min
Sleep Period Time: 418.5 min
Sleep Efficiency (TIB): 81.2%
Sleep Latency: 18 min.
REM Latency 302.0 min
Number of Awakenings: 44
Sleep Stage Summary:
Wake during sleep 65.5 min 15.7% of Sleep Period Time
Stage 1: 45 min; 10.3% of SPT
Stage 2: 211.0 min 50.4% of SPT
Stage 3: 59.0 min 14.1% of SPT
Stage 4: 0.0 min
REM: 40.0 min 9.6% of SPT
NREM: 315.0 min 74.8%
Arousal Summary:
Item.................Count........Index
Apena..................0................0
Hypopnea ............0............... 0
Snore...................49............8.3
Desaturation ..........3............0.5
Spontaneous.........60..........11.8
RERAS..................10.............1.7
Limb Movement.....12........... 2.0
TOTAL .................134 ..........22.6
Oxygen Saturation Summary:
Mean SaO2 for all was 98
Item..................................Count...........Index
Desaturations 3% or >............24 .............4.1
NREM Desats...................... 22................4.2
REM Desats. .........................2 ...............3.0
Lowest Desaturation (all stages) 95%
Technologist Comments: "Increased sleep fragmentation and WASO seen mid-study. No significatn obstructive events or desaturations. Very mild snore at times. RERA's scored. Sinus rhythm with baseline tachcardia (low 90's)."
So according to this my husband was imagining those times he woke me up for not breathing &/or choking?
I'm very confused at this point. Can anyone help sort me out? It would be much appreciated![/b]
From what I've read I know I got only half of the REM sleep I need, but I'm wondering what else these numbers might be telling me.

The night of the sleep study you didn't have any apneas, but that was only one night. If your husband notices any other times when you stop breathing you might have to ask your doctor to get you an auto cpap for a home titration over a few days, that way you will have data for multiple nights versus just one night. We all have good nights and bad nights, the night of the sleep study was probably a fair night for you. You didn't have any apneas but there are other things affecting you sleep. Good news is, if your do have sleep apnea it is a mild case.

You might want to get the actually charts and tables for the sleep study. This will show you more than just the figures. Two questions are whether you slept on your back or not and whether you slept on your back during REM sleep at any period. If not, that might be meaningful, since more apneas/hypopneas may occur when on your back and during REM (individual results vary).
So, your husband may be observing you during conditions that didn't occur during the sleep study. If you've been observed stopping breathing that's pretty compelling evidence.
You have a lot of other things going on that show disordered sleep, including those arousals and sleep fragmentation.
The actual pictures will show more.

I slept on my back for 124 minutes, but only 21 minutes of that was in REM sleep (I had very little REM sleep).RosemaryB wrote:...Two questions are whether you slept on your back or not and whether you slept on your back during REM sleep at any period.
Thanks to both of you for your help! I feel a lot more comfortable/confident about my follow-up study next week. I wanted know what to ask about so I don't get taken.
The idea of getting an apap to use over a the course of several nights sounds like a good idea. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll consider the above results to be Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (or at least Primary Snoring which they also do CPAP for), and schedule me for a 2nd night at the sleep lab to do a CPAP titration.
I'm really hoping this'll be the reason why I'm always tired & lacking energy!
::crosses fingers::
Good luck with your titration study! Let us know how it goes. I hope you find a solution to your tiredness.
