I just started on c-pap machine 5 days ago and I have some questions. My dme told me it would be better not to clean the hose and just replace it every 3 months. She said of course it was totally up to me, but she said it was very hard to get it dried out enough to wear by the next night. Does this sound right? Also, I am feeling worse since I started the machine. I am 100% compliant, actually had it on 11 hours last night and last two days was so tired at my desk, felt like my head could drop. I use the Remstar Pro M. Series c-flex machine with mirage swift !! mask and m-series humidifier set at 3. I called the dme today and went in because my digital part wasn't on so I could view my api's and leak percentage. It showed for my last five nights my average ahi is 1.5 and leak % is 31% which according to respironics is very good as normal is 30-50 range. Everything therefore is showing up good, but why so tired. At least I only work part-time this time of year but tax season is not far away and will be working full-time plus much overtime. Can anyone help me? Thanks. This forum is the greatest thing.

I know how you feel. Im three weeks into my cpap and am feeling better. What set me on the right path was reading the post located under the huge yellow light bulb at the top of the forum page.
Look for "Help For New or Struggling CPAP Users" the post there should answer all you questions.

cpaptalk has always forced me to log-on twice. It wouldn't be so annoying if it didn't take me back to the main index every time. It is less painful using Safari.
I like to browse and login when I want to post a response, when you do that here it takes you back to the main index where you have to re-navigate back to that post if you want to respond.
I use both latest Firefox 2.006 and Safari 3.03 beta browsers. some days it lets me log on others not. Some days it is a real slug depending on the time of the day. Safari allows me to store cpaptalk's log-in into forms and it logs me on automatically.
With both browsers, I have the privacy options set to clear cookies and cache when I close the browser. Fact is any trojan or other malware I've ever received has come from keeping those files in my cache.
It is fine if a website I want to visit wants to place cookies on my computer while I'm visiting it, but once I leave and close my browser that data is gone. If I have
anything to say about it, it will always be blown away. More specifically, I have my browser set to delete those items when it is closed. If a browser doesn't allow me to do that, I won't use it.
I know IE and Firefox at times on my Windows XP machines would NOT totally clear the cache and you would have to manually delete those files. But now I find I spend more time on my MacMini than the XP machine as it is so much faster and convenient.
I would check your Privacy or Cookie settings, make sure you Allow per session cookies, if you don't allow those it won't allow you to log in.
1. Clear all your cache and cookies (it is under Internet settings for IE). You may have to go into c:\documents and settings\yourlogin\temporary internet files\ and manually delete those files, you may have thousands of files it hasn't indexed so it doesn't delete them.
2. After clearing your cache try logging on here again, if you are using Safari you can enable AutoFill "Forms" (Safari\Preferences\AutoFill\Usernames and passwords\Edit, add cpaptalk.com, your login and password), then all you do is click the login button twice and you are logged in.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
It's normal to feel more tired in the beginning. Give it a good 6 weeks and see how you feel. Your numbers are good, you just need time to adjust to all of this and get caught up on your sleep.

I have had problems occasionally with the hose not drying after I cleaned it . I clean it once a month. I took a string (Nylon Cord) and tied a brass nut on it and tied a small section of sponge on the other end and dropped the string in it and pulled the sponge through and got it dry. I now have 2 hoses and I hang them each day and swap. No problems with drying. Hose will last a lot longer than 3 months even if most insurance companies say you can buy one every month.

I clean my hose once a week by soaking it for awhile in warm, soapy (liquid castile soap) water, giving it a good rinse, soaking again for about 15 + minutes in warm water with some vinegar added, then a final good rinse. I hang it up for the rest of the day,but it still has many water droplets inside it by bedtime. For a long time, I solved that problem by hooking it into the cpap machine and running the machine for a few minutes without the mask or me at the other end of the hose.Anonymous wrote:I just started on c-pap machine 5 days ago and I have some questions. Then I got lazier and just hooked up the hose and mask, put it on and started cpap'ing. All this does is send some humidified air my way for a few minutes until the hose is dry.
