Knock on wood, I have never had to use a backup machine. I got an m-series Auto bi-pap from my DME this past spring, so my older tank c-pap plus is my back-up.

As with many others here, I would have a tough night without hooking up to the hose. I think I'd try to stay up the whole night. Rather not die in my sleep, you know.

I do so love to breath!

Thank God for friends with apnea! I called a friend who has had apnea for years and asked her if I could use her old machine for the night. I couldn't take another night like last night.

A backup machine is something to seriously consider if you don't have one.

Back Up Machine

Post by ablong » Mon Aug 06, 2007 7:56 pm

I am lucky to still be working and have insurance but i think it stinks.
It will pay the Dr. adjusted fees but has a 1500 durable medical
equipment limit. So they choose to rent and pay inflated prices
for cpap or oxygen or any hard equipment. So be it.

I have a Remstar Plus as a rented machine and it works fine
I wanted a backup so I purchased a dup from our host Cpap.com
but at the time they were out and sent me a machine with c-flex for the
same price. during the week they are one day away with ups Ground
I can't beat it. The USPS take 2days for a first class letter.

I purchased a Remstar auto and card reader with ep 1.6i about 2 months
ago and will try to buy a tank Bi pap auto before they go off the market.

I think my osa is treated with the plus but the other machine are more
confortable.

Another feel good machine is a Pulse OX with a alarm.

It looked so easy for some one to pick up a tank and dump water
into machine accidently so I will try to keep a spare machine.
I also keep a copy of my script just in case I need it. Our host keeps a image or script on their network.

Hope this helps some deal with their situtation

Allen

I travel full time on business so my needs are just a bit different than most.

My old machine is a ResMed S6 Lightweight II straight CPAP machine, this machine is on my nightstand at home, but I haven't seen it in months. This machine has no humidification.

I travel with a Respironics M-Series Auto with A-Flex as my primary, and an M-Series Plus with C-Flex as backup. I have one M-Series humidifier with me. I carry two of the small lightweight CPAP.com batteries which can provide me with three nights of use in a worst case scenario. I also have a small office type battery backup which will get me through a short power outage, I have removed the little beeper on this thing since if the power goes out I don't want to have it wake me up.

I only carry the primary machine with my luggage, the backup travels with the Equipment that I work with on the trucks, at most I am separated from the gear for 32 hours, usually it is more like 12 hours.

Since I started on CPAP five years ago I have not spent one night sleeping without it, and I very much want to keep it that way.

I would love to have a Vantage in the closet as a 'spare', but it's too pricey! I did buy (from a cpaptalk member) a Fisher Paykel 604 mit der heated hose and integrated humidifier. Straight cpap, but the price was right and its a nice unit. Big, though. I am wondering now if maybe the GoodKnight 420G would have been a better choice... much more compact; but still a straight cpap, and no heated hose or humidifier, so perhaps not.

Anyway, a backup is a sound idea if it's financially possible. I feel like absolute hell if I sleep w/o the cpap. It's only happened once. Never again, if I can possibly help it.

I'm a contract worker here in an oil company here in Saudi Arabia. I have decided to get 2 units of same model (PB420E) in the USA and 1 Goodknight H2O humidifier. Since PB420E works very well in my treatment, I find it wise to get same model for my back-up so that I just have one software (Silverlining) for both and convenience as well.

I am planning to get another A Flex without humidifier or other xPAP much later. Since I am from Malaysia, it will take at least 1 week for the goods coming from cpap.com . At the moment my only A-Flex is working fine and invested in a surge protector for this unit.

Will cost me $$$ since insurance here does not cover for equipment like xPAP and mask. I hope my AFlex not break down until save enough money for the backup.

I have a back up. I got a good deal on a slightly used F&P HC234.
Over 20 years in treatment...
Humidified REMstar Plus at 18 cm
Mirage Swift Nasal Pillow System....A Winner!
