10 months, and still problems

Post by nightingale » Mon Aug 06, 2007 5:56 am

Can't believe I am the only one experiencing ongoing mask problems. Have tried all available to me, and cannot eliminate leaks. My sleeping is worse than before I was diagnosed, and I am tired all the time. My sleep lab has been great in trying to find me a mask that will allow at least 5 hours uninterrupted sleep, but this has not happened. I sleep about 1 1/2 hrs before awakening to readjust mask. I do require a full face mask.
Currently am using ResMed Ultra Mirage Quattro with fair success -- awaken several times during night to readjust the mask--also, the forehead pads make horrible indentations, and the straps are not too tight.
Tried the FP Oracle 452, hoping it would be the answer, especially since it does away with all the head gear AND you can wear your glasses while using.
I am so envious of those of you who seem to sleep through the night, and I thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I would recommend padacheeks for the forehead. The padacheeks will keep the marks and discomfort away. You might also try the padacheeks for the straps. They just make the whole mask more comfortable and more tolerable. You can go to http://www.padacheek.com or just PM padacheek, she is a forum member and always goes beyond the call to make this more comfortable for each of us!

Sorry treatment is going well for you.

I'll second bdp522. I had the same forehead issue and the padacheek product eliminated it.

I use the same mask and after getting padacheeks forehead pad and a nose flap (she made it for me), the mask definitely works. I wake up once during the night and have not had to fiddle with leakage around my nose and into my eyes. My nose is healing also (serious rubbing problems) and my numbers are falling. Get in touch with her.

Good luck.

Thanks for responding so quickly, and Brenda, thanks for posting the website--I have contacted her, and unfortunately she is on vacation until 8/20--looks like one solution for sure!
This has been a frustrating experience for sure, and I am desperate for some uninterrupted, quality sleep.

She will be checking her e-mail daily. Even on vacation she thinks of others comfort and I'm sure she'll get back to you asap.

Until padacheek returns, you might purchase a piece of fleece and make yourself an adequate set of pads. They won't be as elegant as the real thing, but they'll work in the interim. I'm not too handy with needle and thread, but my wife purchased some glue made for fabric, and I glued the pads together. (Actually looked suspiciously like Elmer's but cost more.) I also made a complete hose cover this way, and it's held together quite well. I still recommend padacheek.com when you get the chance. She does some amazing things for us hoseys.

I'm sorry you're having problems. It is hard enough to adjust to this therapy, even when things are (mostly) working ok... even worse when everything seems to be going wrong.

I have the same mask as you, and while I have not had the same/as many problems you have, it could still be a heck of alot more comfortable. I will definitely be ordering from padacheek when she gets back from vacation. I think the mask pads will help alot.
