there was a doctor on fox news housecall today who was discussing sleep apnea. he never mentioned how dangerous it was. he did say that not all snorers have sleep apnea. you would thinkhe would have mentioned all the problems sleep apnea can cause especially since he is a cardiologist.
Sleep apnea needs much exposure.
I am highly educated and have heard very little about the subject. I am kicking myself that I have lived about 30 years with sleep apnea and did not know it. My doctor said I had depression (1983). I have suffered every since.
I am wondering how many people have some type of sleep apnea yet have no knowledge of the subject? Sad we live in a civilized society and yet so many people suffer from something that could be so easily fixed.

Hunter, 'I think I got you beat.
I was a pharmacist who prided myself on being current on medical issues and able to informed advise patients.
I read an article in the local newspaper one sunday about an operation for apnea and listed all the symptoms of apnea.
I was floored. Here I was supposedly very medically knowlegeable and had never heard of it.
I never knew of a patient talking abnout apnea.
It is too sad that far too many docs at that time- mid 90's also knew NOTHING about it and today still too few realize the dangers of apnea.

Certainly sounds like a common theme. Unfortunately, not a lot was known about OSA back in the 80s - hence your doctors misdiagnosis.Hunter1 wrote:I am kicking myself that I have lived about 30 years with sleep apnea and did not know it. Nevertheless, there is still poor exposure in the media when it comes to the dangers of OSA, even with what we know today

Hey, now. Fox News got a court to agree: there is no law preventing them from lying. http://www.projectcensored.org/publicat ... 05/11.htmlJeffH wrote:Why would I think ANYTHING on Fox (faux) news would be accurate?

Precisely my story and lament.
In fact, had I known about sleep apnea back in grad school, and had CPAP existed, I believe I would now have a Ph.D. (Although I somehow managed an M.Sc. while battling what I now know to be mental fog and attention...ah...whatever.)

Add my voice to the choir. If I had known about sleep apnea 4 years ago (or if some doctor had actually cared enough to thoroughly investigate what was wrong with me, rather than handing me some antidepressants and shoving me out the door), maybe I would've actually been able to finish my Master's program rather than having to drop out.Hunter writes...I am highly educated and have heard very little about the subject. Also, that Project Censored thing? As if Bill O'Reilly wasn't reason enough to hate Fox "News." It's nice to know that he can legally be a lying sack of...
