ADAM circuit -anyone tried it?

Post by WillSucceed » Thu Apr 28, 2005 7:39 am

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Adam Circuit from Puritan-Bennett? I know it is essentially a Breeze without the rigid headgear. Several people on this forum have commented that the Breeze is good, but not for back sleepers, because of the rigid pad at the back of your head and the shifting that can occur when one roll on/off his/her back. I'm wondering if the lack of rigid headgear behind one's head with the Adam would eliminate this but, still give the benefit of the effective nasal pillow system that the Breeze and Adam share.

Any thoughts?

I tried the Adam Circuit and I found it to be quite uncomfortable. But then I was not provided a crucial part which would have allowed for some adjustment in the angle that the pillows present themselves. My DME provided me with the economy setup and I did not know enough about it to ask at that time. The Adams headgear is also a lot more intrusive than that of the Breeze and that alone was enough to turn me off of the Adam's. However, if I were to get the Adam Circuit, I would also buy the custom made head gear that is available online. It is supposed to be a lot more comfortable than what comes with the Adam Circuit setup. At the moment, I can't quite remember the name of the custom headgear but i am sure someone else would.

Anyway, I now use the Breeze and really like it, although I am always on the lookout for other interfaces. The hard part at the back of the headgear does not bother me at all. In fact, the cushion part finally wore out and so mine is not even cushioned now and still does not bother me. I think that the shape of your head and your pillow might help determine whether or not that hard part would be problematic. Lots of people use and love the Breeze so it must not be a problem for most people it seems. As far as moving from side to back, etc, that does not pose a problem for me. In fact, I can adjust for any leaks without even using my hand. But then again, what works for one person might not for another.

I've used an ADAM circuit for five years. I find it to be quite comfortable and almost leak free (the best I've tried in that regard). I use the angle adapter. Might be what Ann was referring to? I'm not aware of different types of headgear for it. Nothing is perfect, but having recently tried a Swift, I'll be staying with the ADAM until something better comes along. The ADAM stays put without leaks much better for me, even though I did like the Swift. The angle adapters crack from the daily taking apart to clean and putting back on, but still work. I've had the velcro tabs on the headgear come apart twice in five years, and these are replaceable. Hope it helps.

Thomas-

I think it was the angle adapter that I was not given. Without it, it was uncomfortable and leaked. I believe the customized headgear for the Adam Circuit is online at cpapman.com. You might want to check it out. People who use it swear by it. Glad you like the Adam Circuit-- seems like it works well for you.
