New to Cpap-?AHI

Post by tnurse » Sat Jul 28, 2007 9:10 am

I just received my Respironics M series Pro and started using it Tues night. Last night I found out how to get my AHI result to show up on the LCD screen (DME had it blocked), anyway, my AHI is above 9, is this reading accurate since I've only had 4 nights of therapy? If I can consider it accurate, what do I need to do to decrease this number?

Actually, just starting out w/CPAP therapy, getting used to the pressure and the mask, etc. 9 isn't all that bad an AHI. Of course, we all want it below 5 but w/only 4 nights under your belt, relax. Give it a week before you start trying to tweak things.

There will be others here to help you out, never fear. That's the whole purpose of this group, to help and support each other. You are obviously innovative and a patient willing and able to take part in and guide their own health care. You'll do well.

I would start by resetting the LCD display data, it won't erase anything from the SmartCard,

1. Hold down the <- -> arrows while plugging in the power at the back.
2. Press the ->key, navigate to the Therapy screen, press the (-) negative button for 3-5 seconds until the data is reset to zero. You can press the (+) key to enter Setup or press On/Off button to exit.

Lower your AHI:

AHI should drop as you increase pressure, try increasing by 1 cm per night and watch it drop, if it starts to climb and continues to climb for the 2nd night, then you have gone too far and may need to back off pressure in other direction.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Just to let you know that sometimes there is a error in the LCD display of the M-series.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome!

If you have both your sleep studies, these can be valuable in giving clues to what might help in your individual case. If you don't have them, it would be a good idea to get them for future reference. I've figured out a few things that helped in looking at mine and eventually understanding them, with the help of people on this board.

I was titrated at 5, and 8.5 is optimal for me. The tech who did the study was very unprofessional and poorly trained. So glad I can raise my pressure and have the data to figure it out.

Leaks are important too, so finding your leak rate will be helpful and controlling any leaks.

I do have both reports, but it is just the summarized reports dictated by the doctor, not the complete study. What do I need to post to get advice?

The complete studies are important to have, since this is what you will need if you ever want to buy a machine on your own. Along with your prescription, of course.

I found the dictated reports to contain a bunch of boilerplate language, no doubt written by a computer formula of some kind. I found this out by looking at the actual reports, which have lots of good info on them. Posting the actual studies is a good way to get some feedback. Make sure to remove any identifying information first!
