Numbers are getting better but I am more tired than ever....

Post by elazarus » Wed Jul 25, 2007 7:17 pm

Hi Everybody,

I see my numbers coming down:
AHI = 5.0
Sys Leak = 40.2
90% = 10.1

But I am feeling more tired than ever during the day.....I mean really tired where I have to get off the road to have a cup of coffee.

I am not snoring and the XPAP is working throughout the night (no mask tossing) but I feel worse than ever. I know about sleep deficit but I can't be that much in the hole....can I?

Thank you in advance for your input.

Elliot

Elliot,

Make sure you're getting ENOUGH sleep.
A good AHI still doesn't totally compensate for the "quantity" of sleep.
It seemed like the more "good" sleep I got, the more I needed/wanted.

Hang in there.

Best wishes,

Den

Still Tired

Hi. Sorry to hear you are still struggling. I was looking back over your previous posts, and see you have gone thru a lot of adjusting - different machine, multiple masks, dealing with mouth breathing. I don't think you can expect much improvement from all the time when things weren't working for you. But if all your issues have stabilized, you should begin to feel improvement. Are you getting an adequate number of hours of sleep each night?

How long it takes to feel better differs widely. It's just my opinion, but it seems that the more depleted a person had become, the more likely that it will take a while to bounce back.

If it doesn't begin to happen for you, it wouldn't hurt for your doc to check out any other possible medical or medicinal causes. When I was first diagnosed with a sleep movement disorder that required medication, when I was not improved after nearly six months, the doc wanted another sleep study while being treated to see my current status. Hope it doesn't come to that for you.

It's still a little early in the game to think your treatment is not going to make you feel better. Maybe discusion of your concerns with your doc would help. Hope you feel better real soon.

Kathy

Tired....

Thank you for your input......

In all honesty, I don't think I get enough sleep. I am so used to going to bed late because I never felt rested the next day that I have not really tried to go to sleep earlier.

Sometimes we are so close to something that we can't see it.

OK it's bedtime.

Thanks

Elliot

Yes, you're right!

Freom what I've read, sleep hygene can play a big part in things. I'm trying to establish a nightly routine myself. Some have said this helps. I also am a night owl, preferring to stay up until midnight or after. Right now it's fine. I'm a teacher and school has been out for a while. But it won't be when we go back in about three weeks. So I'm starting to establish the routine now and trying to get myself ready. Pushing bed time up just a few minutes at a time and establishing a set "chain of events" to lead me up to bedtime. This tells the body that it needs to get ready for sleep. The next step is to add CPAP into the mix! By the time school starts back up I think I'll have most of the kinks worked out, at leas with the routine.

I'm still struggling after2 months . There are so many variables related to a good sleep. I still am hopeful that this effort will pay off and I'll wake up like I did as a child , rested without dread and that night of the living dead feeling. Good luck to you!

FOr me its the other way around Im use to taking 10hrs of sleep to compensate for the overtiredness - now that Im on the machine I have to wake myself up earlier because too much sleep creates too much melatonin plus a number of other things that make too much sleep cause fatigue too. Plus my rem cycles seem to fall different if I get up at 7am I feel much better then trying to get up at 8am at 8 am it soooo hard for me at 7am its still not fun cause Id like to go back to sleep but its not like moving the dead. Im also doing 20 mintues of cardio 5 morning a week to procriate more energy - the body needs to burn energy to make energy its a cycle so thae fact Ive been so seditary due to the prior fatigue doesnt help either so Im forcing myself on that too and it feels real good. Im doing all kinds of things to get back to normal. Bedtime routines are important too.
