Hose Quick Connect homemade solution/tips?

Post by BluBtl » Wed Jul 25, 2007 4:48 pm

Aloha. New to forum and have been on CPAP now for 3 days. I did a search but could not find anything. Within the 3 days I find I have to disconnect the hose two/three times a night. I worries me on the wear and tear on the hoseend. I may be to early to worry as im sure it will get easier as I go on.

Please post some of your ingenius solutions on hose quick connect if any. CPAP.com does sell a quick connect but I thought I would fish around the forum for a homemade solution before I order.

Thanks,
Jeff

Are you taking the mask off to go to the restroom? I never take the mask off. Instead I disconnect the hose from the machine and wrap it around my neck twice if I need to go to the restroom.

Taking the mask off and putting it back on gets me "more awake" and makes it more difficult to go back to sleep.

Get a connector from our host and put in on the hose end that attaches to the machine.

Thanks Rooster.

I actually leave the mask on and remove the hose at the humidifier, so hose and mask go with me to the RR.

As I continue surfing the forum I found Rested Gal's Genova 90D Elbow idea. Thanks RG, I will try this one today, hope I can find the right one.

I started out worrying about wear and tear on the hose end, but as I got into it I need to get up less and less, and if I do disconnect I do it closer to the mask so I can breathe easier. I find it really hard to breath though a long hose in the bathroom.

But as I started to say, my two hoses (I alternate them) have been going for over 15 months now and no problem with the ends. If they do go, hoses are $10 on cpap.com, pretty cheap in my opinion.

Um... I think I'd disconnect the hose at the mask. I'd be a little concerned about the hose dropping in to places where it should'nt be... Eeew, that would be a bad night on cpap

snoregirl,
Thanks, thats comforting to know. I should worry more about my apnea than a 10$ hose.

Kat,
Eeew is correct. Thats why I posted for some ideas because i walk around like an elephant. Im bit of a germaphobe so the hose wraps around my neck and the end goes in my shirt collar.

I use the 90 degree elbow. It works beautifully, and since my humidifier connects to the tubing in the front, turning it straight down helps with rainout too. Arthritis in my hands makes pulling that tube off the humifier too much of a hassle when adding water.

Also, using this connector between your mask and hose makes it a quick connect, so you can just unhook the mask. I just leave it on the tube when washing it.
